Bad News from Goviro

Those of you who have visited Quiberon in Brittany will know of the quirky, cheap and cheerful Municipal Camping du Goviro. The site is in a prime location, with terraced pitches looking out over the bay. It's right beside the coastal path that leads to the port and town in one direction and to the point of the peninsula in the other.

The town Council have decided that the campsite is 'obsolete' and would cost too much to update. As a result, the site has been sold to Odalys to develop a 5 Star 'hotellerie de plein air'. The campsite will close at the end of the season and re-open in its new guise in 2021.

The regulars are up in arms and have formed an action group. Posters and protests and banners held up to tv cameras covering the Triathlon de Quiberon this weekend. " 5 etoilles Non, 2 etoilles, Oui!"

We've signed the petition.

Who wants 5** eh? Can't blame the protesters in the least. Sad news. Many sites like this disappearing in France over the last 10 years or so. I think it reflects the new Touring Demographics in France, away from the older 2 or 3 week stay with an ancient caravan to more up to date caravans and more importantly, Motorhomes.

Who wants 5* ?  Well members of this Club do.

CAMC publishes a glossy photo brochure every year of that sort of site all across Europe and the reservations sell like hot cakes.

If you just google Odalys you will see that their eco friendly, sustainable plein air ghastly holiday camps stretch from Croatia, through Italy, France, and into Spain. The loss of Goviro as a municipal is really upsetting a lot of the caravanners here. I've spoken to some of the leading protestors and I think they know it's a lost battle. Money talks!

The campsite is in a prime location, too good for simple campers!
