Travelling to Béziers from Calais avoiding Paris

5Hi, 

Can anyone suggest a route from Calais down to Béziers, in early October, want to avoid Paris if possible. ( wanting to do 2 overnight stops) We are towing Twin axle caravan and need to keep to 56 mph due to combined weights of over 3.5 tonnes. Aiming to cross via Eurotunnel around 14.20 hrs. Looking to drive for 2-3 hrs before 1st overnight stop. Suggestions for overnight stops enroute would be helpful. It would be nice to arrive at campsite around Sunday midday.

    First night at Chalons en Champagne, second night at Camping Lyon. Both sites still open in October. Route is all motorway and tolls about 150 euros each way.  Other cheaper alternatives via Rouen are possible if you wish.

    The tried, tested and most favoured route to avoid Paris is from tunnel: A16 to Rouen A154 to Evereux, Chartres and A10 to Orleans. A71 to Clermnont Ferrand then A75 to south coast and Beziers.

    Alternative could be A26 then A1 to Senlis/Charles D'Gaulle Airport then N330/N2 to A104/N104/A5b to Melun, then N6/N7/A77 to Moulins, D2009 to Clermont Ferrand, then A75.

    If you want to spend more on tolls, use A6/A77 after Melun to Clermont. 635 miles of which 550 are motorway

    Harry B should have added that his route is much cheaper too. Plus the D 2020 from Orleans to Vierzon is an excellent Toll free road. And most of the motor way south of Clermont Ferrand is free !!

    Unless you are on the Motorways I would suggest you keep your speed down to around 50mph as most roads outside towns are restricted to 80km/h (49.7mph).

    56mph may result in a hefty quantity of speed tickets and fines.

    Harry B's tried and trusted route is the one we always use.  There are plenty of sites en route so really just see where you will be and look for one that is open.  Two and a half days should do it easily.  For your second night try to get past Clermont Ferrand and look for a sight neat Issoire you will then arrive in Beziers (where we used to live) early afternoon.

    Keith and Margaret's warning so true.  We are currently in the Lot area and there are loads of police speed traps waiting for the unwary who exceed the 80k limit, and the 30k in most villages!
