"I am left wondering, that of those club sites with vacancies in peak periods, are members ( as I do ), avoiding those sites on price and finding something cheaper ?"

We avoid club sites in peak periods precisely for the opposite reason - because they are too busy! Finding somewhere cheaper is an added bonus though! smile

Fair enough - just wondering which club sites you considered not to be good value in low season?

I don't avoid them, I just pick the cheaper ones. They are only busy at weekends.

I'm not sure that it makes a lot of difference. I've just had a look back at my holiday costs when I owned my place in Spain. If I divide up the annual cost of ownership, ignoring the tied up capital element, for say a nominal 100 days a year, which is not dissimilar to the "long holiday over there crew" and the nightly cost isn't much different. The last package holiday I did was fifteen years ago and worked out at £100 per day, door to door.

Just been reading an article  in todays paper visit britain  campaign in its latest incarnation is 50yrs old visitors from overseas were 5 million, it is now expected to break 40 million included in that is LVusers so it seems those from other countries value these Sceptered Isles far more than some who live here, surprised

It would be interesting to know where these places are that we could get say 2 flights to/from,  get to and from airports, hire a car at the destination, get all insurance, self catering accommodation, and all food and fuel etc, and still have change from £350 per week.

Plus of course then move on to somewhere different and repeat the process several times before returning home.

We might consider selling the caravan if we could do that.

Ah, yes.....would need to be a very large suitcase to hold all our prescription stuff .

And a different bed every week too.

On second thoughts, I doubt OH would agree!

Just a guess, but are all the empty pitches caused by the people never returning to this site cos we don’t like the wardens as they told us off for breaking the rules.   Just a thought to kick around

We are going to Bridlington 15th to the 22cnd £204 we priced up Sandringham same dates £187 two very similar sites £17 difference, only reason l can think of is that Bridlington just had an upgrade. But besides the point quite happy with the price works out at 14 50 each per night. l have always said that peak times for families is a rip off, children should not have to pay, may start an argument now

No argument, but why do you think children should go free?

Why children but not OAPs or ex-servicemen, for instance? I, too, would like to hear the reasoning, Heethers, and don’t forget there are already discounts for children.

Unfortunately all leisure companies put their prices every school holiday but for the club I think the average rise of 40% is just too much

My children never paid .... I did.

If parents don't want to pay for their offspring then there is always birth control or abstinence.

Not charging at all does seem a strange concept. The price for a child at peak is already discounted to 37% of the adult rate, which seems very fair to me. When we were holidaying with our children at peak, we just accepted that as we had made the decision to have them, we would have to pay for them. Not expect someone else to. Which is what would have to happen if there was no charge.

...or slightly less 'head on', try sites that do offer thiswink

(that's 'children go free' not 'birth control or abstinence')undecided

I haven’t checked this year Easy but in 2017 the last time we toured in he summer in the UK,  40% seemed the norm.

Perhaps off season prices have increased so much that the summer uplift doesn’t need to be so great
