Have CAMC over priced some sites

How many of you “over there” lovers have a holiday over there, in your tourer between November and March? Just curious. Can you tour from site to site? How cheap is it?
I did it three years running prior to this year but only for 6 weeks after Christmas. Didn't do it this year and the way its looking I won't be repeating the trips next year or the following year. You can tour from site to site providing you are not too fussy about sites and pitches. It is cheaper to stay in one place long term rather than keep moving on. I Don't think it is cheaper than staying in the UK but that may depend on what overheads you have in the UK.

well, as you've asked, I'll stick my head up....we tour 'there' twice a year..
we like to be home for Christmas with the family so we do either mid Sept to mid Dec or mid Jan to Easter plus a French sojourn fitting around the diary.
weve met a few CT-ers while away, most recently spent a fortnight with DD at Turiscampo when we stayed in Portugal during our 12 weeks in Spain, Portugal, and France..
is it easy to tour?....yes....in a MH couldn't be simpler, literally pull in wherever you fancy....sites, Aires, car parks, supermarkets, wild spots whatever.
is it cheap....I gave an example above touring 'now' to a site in France, loads of fantastic extras, huge pitches, water on tthe pitch all for €18.
move around, use a few Aires and a few safe town night spots or beach type locations and the nightly average would tumble...
fuel in Spain at a euro a litre, Menu deal Dia at €10 or less.....lager a euro a pint if that's your thing....more Tempranillo chap myself.
so yes, we go....we love it, it's cheap it's easy and warmer than here, although it's lovely down by the Witterings this week.
im sure AD, TG, DD, WTG and many others (perhaps even JK) would give you as much info as you like, but in a new thread in the Overseas section?
theres enough angst here already
PS.....Middlesborough, Bury.....really....?

Facilities.
we haven't used any for 18 mths or so, but using the top class touring areas (often fully serviced pitches) out of season is lovely and quiet but you also get access to pools, clubs, bars, restaurants etc which, while I appreciate not everyone's cuppa, provide some life and a change of scene....
oh....and price

No , not really😁 As I said nothing could temp me to spend more than a couple of hours in Boro. (Football match!) Never been to Bury, so won’t condemn it.
Thanks for info, it was a genuine question. I wondered if Sites stayed open like some do here. You didn’t mention Tunnel though and costs. I won’t do ferries, get seasick too easily. I can’t do 12 weeks at a time either, got too many commitments at home, so wouldn’t want to be paying big Tunnel fees for a couple of weeks. Then there’s the dog......🤔

Nothing as far as I know MM. But I do know a small town in SW suffering traffic meltdown due to Hinckley Point power station. Although on the plus side they might be seeing road improvements other places only dream about......

which is why I'm on a CS in West Sussex

Yes indeed, but outfits (including one caravan) arriving without booking is interesting.
Change of warden but they have been doing it all day.

The staff here say there was a caravan outfit arrived this morning although the sign on the access road say no arrivals before 1200 ,had not booked, but thought if they got here early there would be a pitch, for them, hence the other sign went up adviseing of booked arrivals only

Yes, as I thought. We are happy enough at the moment doing what we do within our caring constraints. It’s a lot better at the moment, but we are doing a lot of cottages as well. We used to do four weeks away at a time when working, our main Summer break. That was Cornwall, quite a tow for us. We used to use a nice private site, could only stay 21 nights on a Club Site. Later we found a great CL. Saving on site fees meant we went across to Scillies, or up on to Dartmoor a few times horse riding each holiday.

That’s something to look at, Tesco points. Have saved lots of times using those, attractions in London mainly. Didn’t know you could use Tunnel with Tesco points.

I have to disagree JV, I think more are closing earlier. We were definitely able to stay at Bolton Abbey very close to Xmas, because we had two stays there a few days apart. That was around four years ago.

I am left wondering, that of those club sites with vacancies in peak periods, are members ( as I do ), avoiding those sites on price and finding something cheaper ? Or are they not going away at all to avoid busier periods completely ? Or perhaps they go away for fewer nights to control the amount spent per year ?
I would think that for some all 3 of the above apply, Justus. We avoid club sites during all but the low seasons, and use CLs mainly along with the odd commercial site. As were away touring for over 250 nights each year using club sites all the time would not be financially viable. Our average cost has been in the region of £13:50 pn over the last 3 or so years, but obviously is creeping upwards each year.

Club sites? I’ve always avoided them like the plague! 🤣🤣 Having kitted my van for Off Grid, I never have a problem booking a site or indeed, finding a site at the right price. A new Facebook group has been started- CAMOGG- all you need to know about the off grid experience. 👍🏻

The football team at the moment! Feel sorry for the fans....bit off piste I know.

"This last winter we were unable to go to Spain and had quite a few UK trips. We were taken aback at the nightly price for Club sites over the winter but paid up - begrudgingly - on occasions as we wanted some breaks in particular areas."
What particular areas? Were there no CLs in the area? We've always found club prices pretty competitive in low season, but I'm sure there are plenty of alternatives.

Definitely with the club owner. He seems to be trying to ensure that the football team dies....such a pity.
