Probably why as the motor caravan salesman who was on Cirencester last week, was saying, that the majority of new vansare being financed by pension pots and people useing equity on their properties,so it seems some are not thinking about the fiture
I retired in 1994 and my post is still in place with two "assitants"and three times the salarie, the diference is that instead of a nationalised company it is now "in the private sector

I read alot of your "Over There" posts.
I find them very interesting and if nothing changes too much in the future, useful.
Your doing what we want to do upon retirement!

Evening
Thing is BB the working families don't get to go away for 200+ nights, more like two or three weeks in their van plus weekends, so the nightly fee that seems extortionate to you and other retired folk posting on here is (talking to the people that pay it) very reasonable.
There's two young families pitched up behind my fence at present. Overhearing their conversation yesterday, they were planning their itinerary and the fact they were paying £35+ pitch fee and were allowing £200 a day in spends seemed to be normal to them. That's without any pool, clubhouse or any other entertainment so yes, working folk do think that £40 a night is reasonable., and on a club site shock horror
I couldn't afford that nightly layout but I'm nearly an old geezer,
JK

yes, why we started caravaning. either one big two weeks away on a package holiday or a caravan with lots of holidays throughout the year.
Interestingly enough we have found that this year's long stay holiday has cost the same as our usual two weeks all inclusive holiday over there, the site fees are really the least of the costs once you start having to eat out and all the trips and visits, just like those families.
Many families here and all paying over £40 per night plus and appear very happy too, especially when in the bar at night having meals and beer (not the kids).
I mean the kids were not having beer, they were having meals

The site we are on is very busy with families or grandparents with grandchildren ,and there seems to be more cycles than LVs on site also lots of dogs, and that is with a nightly charge for 2 adults and 2 children of over £40 per night, and the families behind us (3)who are here together have been out for the day to the motor museum ,and had dinner there

We seem to live a lot more frugally than many other caravanners!
We rarely eat dinner out, sometimes a light lunch if we are visiting a NT place, and we do not go to the pub. I was initially surprised at how important it seemed to be to have a pub within a reasonable distance, as mentioned in many site reviews, but have come to understand that the pub is a British tradition.
We do however enjoy good food, cooked by ourselves and accompanied by a decent bottle of wine, visiting various places etc, so still manage to spend most of our "holiday budget".

indeed you do K, at £50 per day on your 3 month holiday over there touring wasn't it? Very frugal

But why would BB or others such as ourselves want to cut the number of nights away by half. We have a caravan (& BB a M/H) to use it and not let it stand for weeks on end doing nothing. We have everything we want in our caravan and are quite happy to use the facilities it provides rather than pay exorbitant prices on club/commercial sites. Don't want or need " better dearer pitches with bette facilities"!!

Yes I do my own research. I have my own spreadsheet of sites across the country with serviced pitches and I have the list that a member of this forum has compiled.
Going back to the days when this web site was updated, the lack of the ability to search for serviced pitches was raised by many members and Rowena agreed that this would be desirable. Nothing has happened.
The lack of the search facility may be due to the poor implementation of this web site. However I have no idea as to the accuracy of my statement any more than you have of yours that there are relatively few members who require it. If the facility is not there how do you know it is not wanted?
I would have thought that the ability to search for facilities that the club offers on its sites was more useful to potential purchasers of its services than, for example fishing or golf, from which the club gains no revenue.
The logical conclusion to your comment about me 'doing my own research', is that there is no requirement to have the ability to search on any aspect of a CMC site, or its surroundings, as everyone could/should be doing their own research.

I don't moan about the price of anything, merely the value of some things
when in the uk we 'pitch' in the heart of the town or the heart of the country (to suit) by using the popular THS sites of C&CC, which average around £9-£10 a night...
i don't 'need' any of the facilities CC has to offer (apart from the odd trip to Hillhead) as we have them all on board....we want location either close to town centres or out in the forest/country..
we manage 3+ X the number of nights we'd get at club sites and are closer to the things we enjoy.
when 'away' we use all types of stop over from car park type aires through small country sites to full blown 'destination' sites (usually near beaches) that have proper facilities that put them in a different league to club sites and can be had for around €18.
so, I don't think we need any advice on 'upgrading to better dearer pitches with better facilities'...

It would be a lot more than £50 per day if we were paying £40 per night site fees!
And remember that that £50 includes everything spent on the trip, averaged over the number of days (or nights) away.......tickets, insurance, tolls, fuel, food, sightseeing etc etc.
Longer trip = better value.

I agree K but in UK on a range of 'mainstream' sites you would not have been paying £40 a day and neither would I. Currently in peak club sites are around £30/31 a night for a couple. Less in much of the year.
I cannot compare your estimated costs with mine a my costs include depreciation/cost to change caravan, writing off tow car over 10 years (although ours is 14 years old) increased cost of fuel towing, insurances and service on caravan, site fees. Food costs etc is unimportant to me as I eat at home. I reckon that costs us £50 a night.
I don't look to find cheap locations to pitch but I have and do consider alternative ways to holiday. As we prefer our own facilities/space then the closest alternative would be apartments/cottages etc. Organising a series of these at 4 or 5 day intervals becomes a faff compare to booking caravan sites but is doable. Easier is hotels and using a chain such as Premier and other fill ins. Considerably more expensive and especially with meal costs.

yes double shots at some low ridiculous price I was told by my 'children'

While I can give you very accurate cost of milk production, I can’t give you costs of our recent holiday.
I know the site fees £25 a night, about two tanks of diesel, two meals out etc - but as for the rest - we spent what we needed when we went shopping.
But the cost of being away from home, sleeping in, eating when and what we wanted? Priceless.

the Colapz stuff looks well made but....£50.....really?
It was £30 when I bought mine, still expensive but it does stow away far easierthan a snake and you can use as many pieces as convenient.
The Club needs a balanceof all types of pitches on it's sites including ecconomy ones.

"Curtain twitching"at this time, there is a queue of 5 motor caravans at the service point, how long will it be before the first "review?"mentions there are not enough service points (as with toilets/showers)
Ps this site has an 1130 dep time to help clear the narrow access lane to this site and the Forrest holiday site ,for the strictly enforced 1200 arr times
