Just catching up and saw this post. There is a super little campsite at Moscenicka Draga, which is on the south east coast of Istria, along from Rijeka. If you are coming via Lake Bled, then you will pass near by.
We called in for a night or two in May 2016 and stayed over a week. Only 100 pitches all nicely spaced and maintained. Immaculately clean toilet blocks with plenty of hot water. 200 yards to the seafront with lovely clear water and swimming from the beach. A number of bars and cafes, several excellent restaurants and ice cream to die for. There is a small Konsum supermarket in the town. The hinterland is easily accessible and lots of beautiful hill towns to explore.
It is the opposite side of the peninsula from Porec, Pula etc but only an hour and a half's drive so each is within easy reach for a day trip.
Someone mentioned earlier on Amarind near Rovinj. We stayed there in early autumn some years ago. Not too crowded, in spite of its size. Lovely boat trip across the bay to Rovinj. Would not be my first choice now, but would be happy enough to return.

Chasncath hadn't considered going as far as Cres but as you say site ticks the boxes. Looked at your story and others which give good recommendation. Seems ferry from Krk best option for less exciting road on landing. Are both ferries just turn up and queue? Do they run frequently during day? Do you pay when you board?
Looking into co-pilot for my iPad is it free or do you pay for Croatia map?

All the island-hopping ferries are turn up and go. Join the queue, then buy a ticket at the kiosk and wait for the next ferry. Krk to Cres are frequent.
We bought co pilot a few years ago for about £35. The maps are updated regularly. The Europe map files take up over 3Gb.

Seen several comments describing walk round choosing pitches and distance from reception. Any recommendations on areas on these sites to speed up process greatly received. Happy to be away from pool etc. Just like to be near sanitary block.

We stopped at both Aminess Sirena and Moscenicka Draga last year in May 2nd-9th and 9th-17th respectively . We stopped on a premium pitch No525 with nice views out to sea and not far from the toilet blocks, a bit of walk to reception though.
Its only a short walk into Novigrad along a good path, lots of restaurants and vinotekas and a nice harbour. The site is large but it was not that full, the premium pitches are out in the open with water and waste outlet. The comforts and some superior are under the pine trees. We chose the premium to avoid the tree pollen and dropping pine needles.
Moscenicka Draga is a nice contrast to the commercial Sirena site, its a lovely drive over the mountains to the East side, we had pitch No 11, just across from the toilet block, but they are all nice.
It really is just a short walk down into the lovely, small old fishing town for the Konzum supermarket and restaurants. The interior of the Istrian Peninsular is stunning, lots of medieval hilltop towns, wonderful scenery and great food.
We enjoyed it that much we went back to Istria late August to October after our 3 month tour.

Bit late but thought I'd give feedback on trip to Croatia in May.
Did Hull Rotterdam crossing 28th April.

Reasonable site for stop over supermarkets within walking distance to stock up on supplies.Next Bad Endorf 271 miles https://www.camping-stein.de site a bit remote but nice setting on lakeside. Good wash block.Again reasonable for stopover.
On to Camping Bled 180 miles 2 night stopover for recovery but also beautiful spot. Nice site good facilities. (used up some of my CMC vouchers)

Very large site but only 10% full at start of May.
Excellent washroom being continually cleaned. Pleasant walk about 15 mins into Novigrad.

it was quite small and very welcoming. Pleasant village and beach Good bus service along coast.Ferry to Cres camp-kovacine.com excellent site easy walk into town stayed 10 days good value as refunded one ferry cost and gave free night if you stayed 7 nights. Worked out about £12.50 a night.
Back on Ferry to Krk Jezevac Premium Camping Resort. Just stayed 3 nights but liked site and excellent facilities. Short walk into busy town with lots of history. When we go again to Croatia would stay longer here.
Loved Croatia but wouldn't go at beginning of May as a bit cold think 2 weeks later would have been better.

Wolfach Blackforest www.trendcamping.de Excellent site with good free rail line along valley for visiting various towns.
Zell Mosel for a couple of nights before returning on Rotterdam ferry.
Good 6 week tour.

Glad you liked Cres and Krk after our having recommended them! Next time on Cres, you could try a few days at Nerezine and Mali Losinj. From Krk you can also get ferries to islands further south.
Coatia is too far for us and our old 'van now, and we'll miss our trips there. We preferred going for the month of September when the weather and the sea temperature are ideal; and the crowds have gone.
Everything starts closing down in the first week of October when the weather breaks.
