Another ‘gassing’’ In France
I apologise if this has been covered elsewhere on the Forum but I read there has been another ‘gassing ‘ in France. This time a Motorhome with 3 kids on board! £1500 worth of goods stolen along with passports etc. What is the answer to this- one day they are going to kill someone!

I read somewhere that more claims have been made for stolen Rolex watches than have actually been manufactured.?
We met an Australian couple many years ago who had suffered this kind of crime in France in a rented M/H
Myself and my Wife both have a Rolex (50th birthday presents to each other) Good investments, worth more now than we paid for them, and yes they are the real deal with boxes and all the paperwork in our names

The Australian couple in Sicily we met then were telling us porky pies ?
Reckon they lost everything, Camera, Lap top with all their photos, Passports, Money etc. They seemed pretty genuine to us and were quite upset with what they claimed had happened and said that they had been taken to hospital by the local police to be checked over ?
They claimed at the time it was Algerian gangs carrying out the attacks, this would have been about 2006.

Oh yea of little faith David.
Was it last year or the year before when somebody was robbed of much cash. A babe in arms, a young child, an older person with breathing problems and two other adults. All anaesthetised expertly in a motorhome?

It does seem weird to me that it’s a crime ‘peculiar to France’ it’s been going on for years so they would have us believe- the police did have some footage apparently (if you can believe the MSM- which you can’t) of people climbing over a fence.? Just makes me wonder why the insurance companies are not jumping all over this? I have read myself that to do what they have said they did is virtually impossible but Celebrities ( RIichard Hammond, Jensen Button etc) have been robbed too and would they go to the trouble of fraudulently claiming so they could make a few bob? I doubt it- they have for more to lose than gain. I have to say the jury is out on this one.?

I think you better stick to the other form of gas!!!
When you read these stories there is always something that doesn't quite ring true about them. That could be shoddy reporting or an embellishment of the facts. I think some of the stories could win the Booker prize for fiction! Maybe they were broken into but why would someone introduce gas into the motorhome, wait for it to take effect and then break in? Why were all these passports scatter around in a place where it was easy to steal them?

Seems to get trotted out every year about this time. I think last time someone investigated properly they concluded it was total tosh.
What I would say though is that after 500 miles, a meal and few drinks they could take everything out of the van, the appliances, the wheels, and the dog and I probably wouldn't wake up!

Wow!
And I just use my cheapo phone to check the time.
How the other campers live!

Sadly the days of print journalists investigating the truth or validity what they print is long gone, as they will soon be.

That's ok until your battery runs out

Were they off grid, Merve?

A carbon monoxide leak could have the same affect but far more dangerous.

It must be the summer touring season if this urban myth is being trotted out yet again. I wish I had a euro for every time it has appeared - I might be worth robbing then.
Lies, dammed lies and Daily Mail (or S*n or any other comic) exclusives!

We avoid overnight "wild camping" parking anywhere - in the UK or abroad. Even "experts" can get it wrong, and i would hesitate to call anyone reporting this experience that they are all liars. From the unfriendly remarks here, one thing is certain - were we to be unfortunate enough to suffer theft from our caravan, I would definitely not announce my misfortune on this, or any, forum.

Some may be lying, others just misinformed. After all, unless you actually see the perpetrators in the act and have direct evidence that they have used some sort of gas then it’s quite a leap of the imagination to assume that you have been anaesthetised when some simpler explanation may suffice.
