We really must meet up on a CL some time, BB! Share a glass or two of the red stuff sat outside our van (possibly outside the little awning ) and swapping tales of camping adventures over the years!  wink

Not sure why you chose to reply to me rather than micky, David. Surely not "stalking"? undecided

I don't know anymore, this illustrates my point I think, what goes these days? May be those dog screw in spikes, tethers and washing lines between trees offer trip hazards and garrottes for those who may venture to walk between pitches! Maybe these are a defence against those who may trespass onto what one 'believes' to be their territory!  I really don't know, does anyone else? If not immediately in use should these items be removed or should they just be left in situ for the duration of one's stay?

We stay at one site where two regular caravanners erect a plastic mesh fence around their complete outfit. This is not to keep people out but to keep the dogs in. I guess there is probably some rule against it on a Club site but it might be interesting to try it (even without a dog) and see how far you can extend the fence before the warden has a quiet word.

We’ve just come back from a CAMC site that is sprawling and all grass - so no marked pitches apart from the white pegs. There were outfits of various sizes and degrees of spreading. The nearest one, still far away from us was a very large bus sized motorhome, plus three jet skis (two on a trailer), a rubber dinghy for fishing, a large pickup type car and behind the “bus” a stack of three cages for guinea pigs.

Did it bother us? Not at all; we enjoyed watching the comings and goings!

I guess that if it is within or on the perimeter of the gravel then there would be no issue, would there?

I like the “cuckoo clock” imagery BB, that’s very much us as well. If we are in caravan, we prefer to take a table and parasol rather than using an awning. Nothing beats sitting outside for breakfast, planning the rest of the day. That’s where having a nice private pitch is great, no one constantly strolling or driving past, no blasted lawn mowers ruining things.

Micky, not sure if you use CLs, but chosen carefully, you would never worry about pitch encroachment. I have to confess that we are always quietly fascinated watching how others do things on Club Sites, if you like people watching they are superb. No doubt we provide entertainment for others as well. 😁

Can I have Purgatory? Might be forced to spend a short time there, but eventually find Heaven!😂😁

That has to be a Club Site, all twee and straight lines, every outfit lined up to perfection. The satellite dish is dodgy though, only just on pitch🤣

It could well be as their sites tend to have gentle curves to be able to keep your speed constant so as not having to change down out of 3rd or 4th gear ,gets the staff round the bin run quicker as well smile

The answer for me is simple. On most hard stand sites I keep any stuff left out on the hard standing, including car. If we have been sat with chairs on the grass areas I remove them when no longer required. No problems for me.

Being a strange cove I am not particularly keen on hedged pitches although we have been on several during the course of the year. I have no problem with regard to privacy or feeling a sense of overcrowding on most sites.

Going back to the OP, I seem to remember this question was asked a few years ago before the 'new' CT.

If I remember rightly a member of staff said that the grass fingers were not part of your pitching area and should be kept clear of 'fixtures'.

It was however acceptable to put a chair on them to sit and enjoy the good weather.

Satellite dishes, washing lines, etc were not to be erected on the grass fingers. Parents/grandparents with small children often put out a rug on the grass for them to play on, I think this acceptable and don't have a problem with it.

Children will quite often drop bikes where ever they may fall smile its what they do when playing, I don't see that as an issue either, however 'parking' your bikes overnight on the grass fingers is inconsiderate and could be dangerous or fool hardy.

Dogs were to be tethered within your pitch and the lead/post adjusted so that the dog could not go beyond your pitch boundary.

Personally I don't have a problem with the way most of the club sites are laid out (I have a very orderly mind) embarassed so far I have not come across one that is cramped, I've always found them roomy.

Sites abroad that we use a lot however, can give a cramped feeling with many trees and pitches hedged on 3 sides. The pitches can be very generous but you do have to be careful when pitching as if you pitch right up against a hedge, you may well find a' neighbour' can be just inches away at the other side of the hedge. Since moving back to a caravan we have 'adopted' the car/caravan/canopy way of siting the van on some types of pitches as this at least gives you some breathing space.wink

I just can’t bring myself to tolerate the cramped pitches, rules and regulations, need to book, no shop, bar or restaurant on site etc.etc.

I don't find pitches to be cramped - maybe because we no longer use an awning. No rules or regulations that trouble me either. Shops, bars and restaurants don't interest me in the least as we would not be using them. If I wanted to buy a meal it would not be on site and the only thing that I am likely to purchase from a site shop would be an ice cream or ice lolly.

Pretty much agree with all this and the points made by ET.

Yes, we would sit in chairs on the grass or put that rug down for the grandchildren but would remove these when not in use and if moving or other maintanence was taking place around the pitch area. I too believe the pitch is your 'domain' and that we should be mindful of the fact that in using the grass at the side and behind the pitch we need to recognise the comfort and needs of others as this space is not necessarily part of the area we book.

I too would also totally understand if any items I had left out on the grass were carefully removed for mowing if I was not at my van when this work was taking place. No problems for us. Just respect others and help wherever possible.

Possibly YRP. Only the odd hedge there to relieve the hard landscaping, although plenty of trees around outskirts. Functional rather than pretty.

edit, not your photo BB, the one above.
