Not just in Spain - I won't name again the site we have just come back from but a retired professional person - who was there with his wife and never opened their blinds or removed the front towing cover from their van whilst they were there - was caught coming out of the shower block by the owner, with two carrier bags full of toilet rolls. He was a regular on the site and had been suspected of doing this for some time, Apparently, he had cut himself shaving and needed the loo rolls for thatundecided

Needless to say, he left shortly thereafter!

sorry, did not mean to be flipant, most of what i have encountered in Europe are combined shower, toilet, sink in one cubicle in one block available to all, but they are private individual cubicles so there is no reason for anybody to be walking about naked outside of the cubicle, and i guess this is the same in the UK, but i know there are those who think it acceptable to behave in such a manner.

I remember spending many a lovely time at Bingham Grange, Bridport, which had a very very very large onsuite arrangement with huge walk in shower, toilet and sink, ok there were only i think 2 of these so you had to pick your times if you wanted to use, but alas the club got its hands on this site and i believe have wrecked it, and installed all those small cubicles we all hate. I seem to recall the main toilet blocks were gender neutral there but never had any problems.

I don't think they've started on the refurb yet but when I drive past the site always looks pretty full. West Bay maybe disappointing for some just now as major new sea defence work still hasn't been completed.

always liked Highlands end and Fresh Water beach provided you dont go in July & August, but then we had the Gkids in tow, both have superb toilet/shower facilities, which were always kept very clean, but we have a recurring theme here, a lot of the non club sites that I have visited have a seperate cleaning team not like the club where the wardens have the pleasure, or not undecided

Not sure that we all hate CC shower blocks. I am personally happy with the typical amenity block

Only 2 for a site that size? Surely that can't be correct. It's many years since our only visit to the site - it was still called Bingham Farm then. Wasn't particularly impressed and haven't returned since.

As for club showers, what is there to hate? How much time does one actually spend  in them? Practical and functional and, for me, certainly preferable to the contortons I'd have to perform to use the shower in the van! laughing

we have stayed at Bingham grange and the info you have given is not the same site we stayed on as there were several showers and toilets spread round the admin building and not all were gender neutral, or small ,surprised

you are mis interpretating what i wrote, I said

"which had a very very very large onsuite arrangement with huge walk in shower, toilet and sink, ok there were only i think 2 of these", I believe this to be true.

I then went on to say

"I seem to recall the main toilet blocks were gender neutral" which i again i believe to be true

i never referred to the other toilets "as small", which yes are dotted around the main block, and i still seem to recall some were gender neutral.

    What i did say was

"but alas the club got its hands on this site and i believe have wrecked it, and installed all those small cubicles we all hate"

but was informed by Brue that this work has not yet taken place.

I have stayed at Bingham Grange many times laughing

Then you will know just how, apart from some of the area that is behind the admin block, with the two walk in shower rooms, just how poor the rest of the site is, and how much money is still needed to be spent to bring  the other pitches and any form of service points up to a decent standardundecided

Not at all, I found the site quite pleasant, quirky, sure it is not what we expect when we use a club site, and this looks to be the problem at present, club members using a recently purchased site that has not been bulldozed into club conformity, but when we have visited, the site has always been well maintained and clean, sure some pitches are difficult to access, and toilet facilities are quirky, but personally i dont particularly like club sites, to regimented, same as. Very good dog wall.

Just to add.....Ross Park near Newton Abbot is the very best caravan site that you are ever likely to visit. The underfloor heated loos are self contained with loo, hand basin, shower, paper towels and liquid soap.

They also charge far less than the Caravan Club (and they are a private business with a profit to make)

Often the disabled facility has the opposite problem.  All the hooks are set very low, obviously for those in wheelchairs, but of course not all disabled people use a wheelchair, so if you are taller, your clothes can reach the floor. Surely they could afford to fit another couple of hooks at a better height!

I have also often wondered who decides the layout of these rooms as it is not unusual to find a large room, but the toilet and basin right in the corner and very close together, the shower in another corner, and lots of unused space, far more than would be needed to manoeuvre a wheelchair.

Other observations are that there is rarely a towel rail provided, or enough space to lay down personal possessions, usually  just a very small shelf, even where there is plenty of spare space.

At least there are height adjustable shower heads, often abroad they are all fixed, and really high up.

Here, on many of the older sites, in the regular facilities, the shower cubicles are very small, so the shower curtain is far too close, nothing worse than a clingy shower curtain!

Most CAMC sites seem to have at least one shower head on a hose , but the CCC ones we have used this year all had only fixed heads.

I think you'll find the CaMC aka The Caravan Club is also a business with a profit to make. Always nice to get a recommendation of a good site though.

Agree, Ross Park is excellent, but not to everyone's liking on here - far too dog friendly! wink

Not sure about them charging "far less" though, although I remember that there are special deals available.  I'd have thought,  without checking, that they're about comparable with club prices.

Looks to be a few pounds less expensive at Ross Park when we would go, compared to Ramslade, which is possibly the nearest Club site?

£28.40 for a pitch with water connection, £31 for one with water and waste, equivalent to a CAMC serviced pitch at the moment, so about the same.

One to note for an off peak trip next year.

We are thinking of going back to that area next year Kj - but have a look at a CL called East Dunley just down the road at Bovey Tracey. Had a very good review earlier this week. Shower & toilet and from just £12 in low season. smile
