and you are being forced to book a club site?
0 -
one of your stock phrases, surely?

oh yes, you have spotted it. Of course it is only possible to stay on a over there camp site if you bring your own LV with you. Drat well spotted. Btw have you spotted those hire a MH tours in the club magazine?
Sorry what up to date reviews did I do BB? Well I suppose if noticing arrival/departure times on sites where you stay is an up to date review then guilty as charged.
I have posted a few times before that I have stayed on campsites around Firenze, I have family who have motorhome and I go away with them when over there.
happy to help
PS my application for Italian citizenship is almost over, no problem in the EU for me

It is worse than that....
On those sites that have economy pitches, the price quoted is for those pitches. These are all grass pitches.
Looking at the first one that came up, Alderstead Heath, the from price of £7.80 is for an economy grass pitch from 28/10/19. However, if you go to the availability calendar, the grass pitches are marked as unavailable from the end of September until the beginning of May, so it does not seem it is possible to stay at Alderstead Heath for the advertised £7.80.
This seems to be the case on all the sites where the from price is for a so called economy pitch

Kj - can I just ask why you are poring so carefully over that site? Are you thinking of going there in October? Have you checked Rob Bryden's claims for P&O cruises with the same diligence? Do you really think the club is doing anything that the rest of the travel industry is not doing?

No, not planning to go there, already been there twice in the past. However, while looking at some other site that we were considering earlier this year, cannot remember now which site, I thought the from price seemed very low and was curious as to when it was, and I discovered that it was for the economy pitches only, and only at a time when the grass pitches were not actually in use.
Only using Alderstead as an example as it comes near the top of the sites list, but it is not the only site where a price has been given for a pitch which cannot actually be booked according to the availability calendars. This means that the claimed from price is incorrect, not just misleading.
As we do not take cruises, or watch much TV, especially the adverts, I have no idea about anything Rob Bryden may be saying.
From prices which have very limited availability are nothing new, but at least they should actually be available!

Are you sure it wasn't available at the start of the season? Those dates wouldn't show now would they?
Don't get me wrong, I'm not going to defend or condemn the club's pricing strategy, but I just think it's become normal practice in the travel industry, like it or not. Look at any holiday advert and the "from" price will apply for a very limited number of dates.

Pretty sure, if you look forward to 2020 you can see the price regime then, which is about 50p more, but that is before May, when the grass pitches are still apparently out of use.
The site I first noticed it on was way back last January, so all the prices were visible then. Having time on my hands back then, I looked at a few more sites, with the same results.

Well I am, it was Firenze to me before it was Florence.
I think you are showing your British bias there David, I do believe it is not just British folk who tow to Italy and most languages call Firenze by slightly different names
There is a Latin 'logic' as I'm sure you will appreciate in it, but how someone thought up Leghorn for Livorno is beyond me
PS you forgot Spain for some reason.

"Surely, after one or two posters have highlighted how 'difficult' it is to actually obtain said 'from price', there nothing wrong with Kjell (or anyone else, apart from you and Corners perhaps) doing a bit of checking and taking the club to task on its own forum where it's clearly 'impossible' to acheive..."
Not quite sure why you continue to link posters together, BB, but surely one is entitled to point out that the club is doing exactly what you (and perhaps DD ) have so often suggested and adopted standard practice by commercial leisure companies?
2 -
my urging of the club to match other 'commercial leisure companies' (including some pretty decent commercial sites) has never had anything to do with sleight of hand pricing....
rather, the decent staffing levels, non closing of toilet blocks, and far more relaxed arrival/departure times....
i think you have the wrong guy(s), M....

Your choice, JV.
Clearly, DD cares not for the feelings of others. 😕

Cheers BB, I think you've just about cured my insomnia

I wonder why you would have trouble sleeping....
never a criticism of wardens, per se, all lovely folk, but working to the constraints of a different model to some other establishments....
always room to improve process
keep taking the tablets

Also i noticed that a number of sites are dropping mid week discount next year. Whilst some are gaining it, there is a drop in the overall number of sites offering it.
Now why isn't that a surprise!!

The difference is that when I look at a cruise price "from", I know it will be for the lowest grade cabin on that cruise. It doesn't quote a "from" price for a four night trip across to the channel islands on the page for a world cruise.
As I posted earlier - deliberate obscurantism not merely indicative pricing. Whilst I am not "compelled" to book, the frequency of finding an unacceptable price means I now rarely even bother looking.
