Tour de France
I don't have a great interest in sport, generally, but I do like to watch the Tour de France - not just for the sport, but for the chance to spot some of the places we have visited in France by looking at the TV coverage.
The Tour starts again this coming weekend. If you want to know where the tour will take us this year, I'm sure there are various sources.....
Here is the one on Wikipedia...
and the official one....

Happy viewing....

David, if you search online, there is a wonderful set of DVDs that is all about the history of the race, but also includes a fantastic disc purely following the race one year concentrating on the places it visits. It predates Ned Boulting and David Miller doing the commentary, think it is Phil Liggot and Paul Sherwin. Looks at all the different regions, the scenery and places of interest.
We shall be glued to it. Currently perusing the official guide and maps of route.

I can highly recommend watching this documentary, called Chasing Legends. It is all about possibly the finest sprint team ever to feature in the Tour, HTH Columbia. Huge names, including a young Mark Cavendish having a fabulous year. Watching him head down the Champs Elysses is one of modern sports finest moments.....

Interesting first 3 days of this year's tour, it seems to be building up nicely. A tremendous win by Julian Alaphilippe today. He will definitely win the Tour in year's to come....what a talent.

We have just caught up after our weekend away. Tremendous crowds in Belgium for first couple of days.

After today's first mountain stage it looks as if it could well be between Alaphillipe and GT for the win this year. Both showed what they were made of in the sprint finish, gaining a few seconds on all the other GC contenders.

Great to see that Chris Froome has won!
Well, I am talking about the Vuelta for 2011. He has just been declared the new winner after the previous winner, Cobo, had the title stripped from him for doping irregularities.
Makes Froome the first Grand Tour winner now instead of Wiggins. Bet that went down with BW.

Nothing known yet, but he has form for sudden abandonments. Looks a shocking accident to Woet van Aert in his first tour, hope he is ok, nothing career threatening.

Today didn't quite work out as expected, with G loosing more time to the dominant Alaphilippe, although still in second place. Great win by Thibaut Pinot on the Col du Tourmalet.

Alaphilippe is on a roll, if G can’t get there, I would be happy for him to win overall. Had to laugh at Vinokourov speculating though, talk about the pot blackening the kettle!🤣 Must be Khazack humour.....

Yesterday was a grand day of racing. Great win by Simon Yates ans Alaphillipe proved that he's human after all, and lost a few seconds to most of those chasing him. It will be very interesting to see what happens when they get to the Alps for the last 3 days of proper racing.

Extraordinary day today, one truly heart rending moment of sadness for one rider, and minutes of total disbelief for all the other riders! This has been a very different Tour from the last few years, and very exciting. How will it finish, who will take the prizes tomorrow........😲

A worthy winner ( hope I'm not jinxing him ) and at 22 yrs of age Egon Bernal should have a lot more Grand Tour wins to come. It could well have been a slightly different story had G not crashed earlier in the race and if yesterday's and today's stages had not been curtailed. I was a bit disappointed with today's stage as I expected Steven Kruijswijk to be more adventurous, but I guess he knew that G had the beating of him in the end.

Marvellous finish to a wonderful Tour, really has been exciting this year, and an inspirational young winner......

And on to 2020!
Just been watching the highlights of today’s stage, what beautiful scenery, wish we were there. One thing really noticeable was the lack of motorhomes lining the route, not sure if they have been discouraged because of the virus outbreak, or if people have just decided to give it a miss this year.
Does anyone know?🚴♂️🚴🏿🚴🏿

BinL and sister live in the Provence. He says that You are not supposed to park along the route. Hence the lack of cars parked up at the side and presumably MH's. Parking is allowed away from the route, presumably anyone following it would walk in from there. I have noticed odd ones that have slipped though. No idea if there are any sanctions for doing so.

Just seen the 2021 route for Le Tour.
We’ve a “carried forward” Brittany Ferries booking for June / July next year, but, tempting as it is, I’m resisting the urge to get the maps out. 🙂0 -
I can recommend the site at Malaucene, the finishing line for a stage coming off Mont Ventoux,. Site about 400 yards from town. As an aside Pygmy Owls nest in the trees behind the site.
Also the site Camping de Bergons at Luz St.Sauveur, on the start of the climb up Col du Tourmalet, or down. Lammergeiers not far away.
See how I'm trying to entice you?

Shame there Pliers, I'm seeing oodles of M-Homes on the First Day Of T D F 2021 !!
Also saw a rather demented woman holding a three foot wide cardboard hand-written notice and facing the Camera and as a result bringing half the Peloton to a ghaaarrstly grinding pile-up on a very narrow country road.

Was it actually a woman, or just a badly dressed guy? Not being able to read French I couldn't work out what he/she was protesting about, or supporting!
It certainly made for an interesting race to say the least and a very worthy winner. Wonder how many days he will retain the Yellow Jersey for this year?I
Thankfully GT avoided both the crashes, as he is prone to hitting the dirt on too many occasions.

Must admit I did not check the Sunday papers for verification, Nellie, but I don't think many blokes dress That poorly Not even that young scamp ABM !! Spent today Watching Athletics Championships & Olympic Trials ~~ for the participants point of view I hope they go ahead after all their graft, but I'm none too keen on those who refuse the Jab being allowed in.
It's purely MY point of view but , , , , , , , , , so now a bit of paperwork and then a non~Cornish thingummy wotsit

Not a great day for GT, or the other Ineos riders, but what a win for Van Der Poel, and claiming Yellow too. Definitely one to watch for the rest of the tour.

Did manage to find out the details, Nellie ! Apparently the woman, for such it truly was, had written on cardboard a greeting for her Grandparents !! Relevant authorities in France are now looking for her quite seriously I understand with intent to bring charges !! Don't think that the Elderly Ones will spill the beans tho
