May I ask if it is now C&MC policy to take toilets and showers out of service for periods or is this wardens deciding to lessen their work load?

Whole facility blocks? Individual cubicles? Site busy or quiet? Queues forming? Reasons given by wardens when issue discussed?

    Help us out here, LD.

Been on a site for several days and in that time at least one toilet has been locked and today a shower was clearly locked and not in use.

They could be malfunctioning. What did the warden say?

Unless the OP can explain what the site staff said when this was queried, I see little point in continuing this thread as members here aren't best placed to discuss Caravan and Motorhome Club policy and can only speculate as to the situation on any site at any one time.  Best that you communicate with the club direct for an informed answer to your question.

I have found that locking one shower door from the outside late in the evening is a foolproof way of guaranteeing not having to queue the next morning! cool

I have come across this situation several times when using club sites where cubicles have been locked off. It has never bothered me to ask why but I can understand why the OP has asked on here. Many more than us two will no doubt have noticed this. It may be annoying to some especially if it causes a wait.

After spending New Year on a large club site one of the toilet blocks was shut down on New Years day and those left on site were asked to use the other block. The other block was the one nearest the site office but the closed block was on what turned out to be the busiest part of the site for those that remained. I understand why one block was closed but it did seem a bit premature given the number of vans that were left.

In response to the question about possible 'out of service' due to a fault. In my experience on sites when a facility requires repair it is carried out promptly and not taken out for longer than necessary. It would appear that my initial question to clarify if this is club policy is not going to get an answer.

How can we answer? Only the warden on site knows the answer. Surely you spoke to him/her before asking such a vague question of your fellow members? With respect, it looks as if you’ve gone about this in totally the wrong manner.

Incidentally, you’ve heard of the general way of these things from another warden yet have dismissed his information and put forward your own experience as more pertinent. Are you, or have you been, a warden?

We've been on sites, both this and the other club ones, where individual toilet and shower cubicles have been locked in both summer and the cooler months. Never opened during our stay nor did they have an out or order sign on them. Just assumed it was to cut down in cleaning. Never enquired of wardens but have wondered - not too far in case I got lost 😉😂

How could the OP be asking a vague question?

It is very simple, he was asking about club policy.

JK said that he could not answer the question, but then answered it, though indirectly.
NO! It is not club policy to take showers and toilets out of service to lessen staff work load.

    Simples !!!

How can any ordinary member know that? It's far from 'simples'.

    Lawrence

I think you are expecting too much from this forum in terms of getting an answer to your question. We do not know who, from within the Club's management, actually follows what goes on here. I could ask the Community Manager to follow it up but without more information, such as, the site in question and or whether you spoke to the warden on site about the situation there is really nothing to follow up. You could, of course, follow this up yourself by sending an email to the sites department. Unfortunately all we can offer you is our views and opinions which clearly is not what you want!  As has been said a Club warden has explained why some cubicles are locked and out of action and this must be replicated across the network to some degree or another.

With the cost of getting hold of a qualified plumber,i would think that they would not be called to site problems until it was worth the costs

I think the title was misleading, how is taking services out of use due to them not working, or  shutting them down due to low numbers (certainly not at this time of year), or a 'change of policy' anything to do with standards slipping?

May be it's the standards and quality of our posts that are slipping. For those of us who can remember the 'star' system there were some pretty ropey posts then which, I'm sure, were just posted to gain personal promotion up the stars.

Don't see this current issue as anything more than sensible site management. If the facilities are built to accommodate a full site then only half the facilities are needed if it's less than half full. I guess with less on the pitches more time (and access) can be spent on them and cutting grass rather than cleaning unused showers and toilets. Surely that's good time management isn't it?

It certainly isn't unusual to see facilities locked off when sites are half empty mid week. They are then opened up again at Friday cleaning for the weekend. However, like JVB we have not been inconvenienced 😂 by this.

We stayed at hillhead late in the season and the warden said they had normally shut the smaller toilet block by then but due to the number of bookings that year they had left it open for a bit longer
