Tyre size, how much does it matter?
So I need new tyres for the van, there's plenty of tread but they're coming to the end of the seven year recommended cycle and they have some fine cracks in the sidewall.
In all honestly they'll probably be ok in the short term but I don't want to take the risk.
The tyres fitted are 205/70/14 98T - try finding anyone who has these tyres in stock!
Looking through the caravan manual, however, and I come across a specification sheet which suggests they should be 185/14C (185/75/14), but then later in the same manual it says the tyre size is 205/70/14 - the same as what's fitted.
Is there any reason that 185/75/14 won't work? Or even 195/75/14 for that matter? Is tyre size that critical so long as the load rating is appropriate for the weight of the van and the rolling circumference of the tyre is similar?
Logically I can see no reason why using a different tyre size should be an issue, taking into the above caveats, but thought I'd ask the question in case I've missed something glaringly obvious.

You've basically answered your own question , your tyre size is there for a reason which takes into account caravan loaded weight requirements in the correct size & tyre load rating for your caravan, tyre size & rating also dictates the correct tyre pressure.
Any change would need to match or exceed your original specifications of recommended tyre.
If you had a mover fitted a change in tyre size could affect the clearance distance between tyre & mover roller requiring adjustment.
Also you would probably have to have the spare tyre to the new tyre size , common sense would dictate stick to the original size. ✔️

Surely, if you are changing the tyres due to age, presumably the spare is the same age and would need changing anyway.
