Directions to New Forest Centenary
Hi all
We are heading to the above site and are just looking for the best route to take as the ones given in the site book are a bit vague. We will be coming from the north and towing out 22ft caravan. Any advice on the best route will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance

The final approach directions from the club are spot on, Francis, but I assume you’re looking for the best route from further north. All I can say is that the M6 and M5 southbound were horrendous two weeks ago due, mainly, to roadworks.
Perhaps it could pay to check nearer to your travel date and then plan a cross country route if necessary.
Be aware, too, that Salisbury always seems to have a nose to tail traffic jam.

If I'm heading south { as I will be on my way from Cheshire to Cornwall in 10 days time } I have taken to using M6 then M42 to the M5 to avoid the roadworks on the M5 Junction 1 area . don't forget that it's rising peak holiday period now, and England & Scotland tend to have different school holidays

The works on the M6 started way north of Staffordshire, Brian, and were on the M5 south of Bristol as well as being around that dreaded M5/6 intersection. The tailbacks were awful on 25/26 June. Hopefully things will have eased time you and Francis travel.

You don't want to be anywhere near the M5. M40 then the A34/M3 branching on to the M27 westbound.

Francis if you follow your usual route to the IOW, which I presume is the easiest for you just branch off towards the A31 New Forest, the worst bottleneck is usually Lyndhurst particularly at mid day, expect queues. Or you could try the route towards Christchurch on the A388 which will be busy too but you should be ok with a bit of patience!

Thanks for all the help. We arrived safely this afternoon. We stayed last night at Chapel Lane near Birmingham so only a 3 hour drive today. The M6 and M5 yesterday was fine until Stafford area then the roadworks were a nightmare. Today’s journey was great we took the A35 and skirted round Lyndhurst. Now sitting out relaxing.
Many Thanks
