Some of those prices are for organic products, for which there is also a premium in the UK.
They seem to call organic Bio. Having said that I was surprise to see organic carrots at over twice the price they are in Waitrose! Perhaps the production of organic vegetables is at a more advanced stage in the UK so scale might come into it.
But regardless of the price of certain items of food you don't really visit another country for the price of their vegetables? There is always tins of vegetables which are usually quite cheap.

The last time I bought potatoes in France was at a Netto supermarket, they were 3.99 Euros for a 2.5kg bag. That was about 3 weeks ago now. Bananas are also much more expensive in France than over here. Onions too, at a LeClerc they were 1.99 Euros per kg.

Here in the UK we paid £5 for a sack of locally grown potatoes! I expect the locals know where to get similar things in France. The trouble with holiday shopping anywhere is that most won't be sniffing out the best prices locally. In some remoter spots and villages you're just glad to find a shop that sells anything unless you have to be near a supermarket as a priority.

Slightly off-piste but Italy has always had a reputation for being expensive and that’s been true for fuel prices but France appears to have eclipsed it this year. Where we are in Italy seasonal food is certainly cheaper than the UK eg. Local fruit (E1.5/kg for peaches or nectarines, zucchini E2/kg). Fresh fish is 75% of the UK price and of course local wine with no chemical additives is around E2.75/Lit. We find it’s significantly cheaper to eat out in Italy and I can’t recall ever having a bad meal here.
In almost 40 years of holidaying in Italy I doubt we’ve bought potatoes more than half a dozen times - Italy is not a potato eating country hence the price of them is higher than in the UK.
Meat is about the same price as the UK but the overall quality of all food is far better than the UK. There is little pre-packed fruit and veg and we do as the French and Italians do and shop daily. As others have said, we don’t go to mainland Europe for cheaper food but here in the UK we are gradually being forced to buy pre-packed food. It may be reasonably priced but the quality is questionable.

That’s fine Rowena removing posts which I don’t find offensive just saying what it is, but ok for caravaner T to call someone a oaf, so some rules for some and not others, camc say no more, get it right or don’t bother in the first place laying down rules, I won’t be joining again after ten well over priced years of staying on some sites, I will miss Warwick though
