Combined shower and toilet

Currently on The Belhaven Bay Caravan park, Dunbar (this is not a club site). They have some different options here. The toilet block has urinals with the usual toilet stalls. Also there are compartments with sinks for washing. Along with this there is a shower block which has separate showers only, or showers and WC and sink combined. Your shower room is lockable, everything in one place. Works really well

I’ve come across this in several places. Wood Farm AS, for one. It meets all needs.

Fine for me at 6.30 this morning TW. Not sure what it's like at 9am when hoping to use the loo and shower when they are all in use wink

Never did think much to that system JVB. Much prefer the new block. Which seemed to cope well with a full site, when we spent a week there in May.

Very similar at Beecraigs CP, Linlithgow. Worked fine but there are not that many pitches. Similar setup at C&CC's Teversal site too.

Once stayed on a site in Austria that had bathrooms for the English, including a bath. The owners thought that was what we English wanted. I had my doubts as we were the only English people on his site.

Lumping all the facilities in one shower room used to be common on Dutch sites and they called them family rooms. It meant the whole family could go to the toilet and shower together - not my cup of tea. Don't know whether they still do this as I've never been back to the Netherlands since.

Not sure how the system would work at peak times.

Carnon Downs near Falmouth has individual bath and shower rooms in a large facility block, light and airy and very clean. probably the best I've seen. It has separate toilets and hand basins available too.

We've just come back from two weeks there.  That site sets the standard that all others should strive to achieve!

becoming quite popular in France now are pitches with a wooden construction private to you that has toilet, shower, sink, fridge & hobs, and there are some sites in the UK with a similar arrangement, minus the fridge & hobs. Personally i think this is a bit OTT but each to their own. Never could understand the mentality that says i have to shower in the morning even if it means queueing. On most sites the facilities are almost empty in the evenings, when you can have a relaxing shower & return to you caravan just in time for cocktail hour. Just spent 5 days at  Anse du Brick Cherbourg, it is a club recommended site, the club needs to take a more closer look at the general purpose block for toilets/shower etc and start replicating, ok gender nuetral but just superb and cleaned 3/4 times per day.

I think we might loose out a bit if they went Gender neutral. Manys  the time my wife has come back saying how busy the showers were, for me to go to shower and find the Gents fairly quiet.

Timing is all wink But it seems to work at Carnon Downs, it's a good sized facility and you can see into the central entrance area whether it's busy or not. I don't know where the club gets it's cramped facilities blocks from, I wish they'd look at some more spacious and airy designs! I often wonder how some people can squeeze into the small cubicles. smile

They've been using the same template since we joined decades ago. No imagination.

On many of the Club sites the facilities block layout will be much the same as when it was given planning permission. Refurbishment on a one-for-one basis does not need further permission, but changing to a bigger building will, and it may well not be possible to get such permission in a "sensitive" rural location.

Even some apparently minor changes will require not just planning permission, but for the whole installation to be brought up to current building standards. If that means having to replace all the plumbing, drains and wiring it will not be worth it.

It does seem so odd in this "enlightened" age that facilities are duplicated for male and female users, creating these peak period queues when through the wall the facilities are underused.

i am guessing that this is a "tongue in cheek" reply, if not, please dont tour in France, many of the sites are gender nuetral as are many of the public loo's, but it is no big shakes people are always mindful of others, and i guess it is no worse than some of the sites i have seen on the beach or by the swimming pool laughing

That was one of the nicer things about the small private site we used last weekend, the shower cubicles were huge compared with Club Site ones, in fact I went out to check I hadn’t chose a disabled user one. And joy of joys, adjustable height shower heads, no trickle from eight feet up the wall.

Mrs Wn says that most of the time the installers give no consideration to the height that the pegs are fixed, not realising that women are on average shorter than men. At the last site we stayed at, Thirsk, she said that she could only reach the clothes peg by standing on tip toes and she is 5'6". Anyone smaller would have a problem. Not the first time she has mentioned such lack of thought that has gone into the set up in the womens room.

The fixed heads seem to be the club's shower head of choice ....😞 As you say, the adjustable heads are far better.

Perhaps that is why they kept getting stolen . . . ?

Yes,it was amusing to watch but frustrating if you were one of those members running round the block and desperate to use the loo! Never liked the system.

Like Exeter Racecourse.  Got in the toilet compartment and had to fight with the door to get out because it was so small!

the clubs fixed heads never seem to be 'aimed' far enough away from the back wall, I usually have to stand in the gutter to get water for washing hair....

if you stand two feet from the back wall the spray will virtually miss you altogether....frown

in Spain they nick sink plugs, clothes hook, even toilet rolls, thats why on some sites the toilet paper is on a locked bar and you collect what you THINK you will need before entering the cubicle. But they have great showers with massess of pressure, on some club sites i could pee faster

Hush now - keep that quiet or all the curtains will suddenly disappear!
