Ferry prices

I have just been browsing ferry prices in case we can get away for September and for the first time that I can remember it is cheaper to go Portsmouth/Caen than Dover Calais on 1st September. That isn't even buying a package.

Portsmouth ferries have become more and more popular over the years they used to be very expensive compared to Dover but it wouldn't even be worth our while travelling to Dover from Southampton now.

Unless heading east, it's a no-brainer for me as it's only 12 minutes down the road.

It is a further 30 miles for us although it saves going through the Dartford Tunnel but it saves anything between 150 and 200 miles the other side if going west or mid France. The other big plus is it saves getting round Rouen.

The problem with Brittany Ferries is that have the same ships that they did 25 years ago. We returned Caen Portsmouth last year and found the ship and cabin  to be very poor. Dinner was good though.
