Is this an appropriate use of a pitch?
I am currently at Tewkesbury. Near my pitch is a twin axle caravan with five dogs, of various sizes, and two adults. The caravan is on a grass pitch. They have been on the pitch at least 5 days.
The dogs are contained in a large pen, approximately the size of a full awning, to the side of the caravan.
As far as I have seen the dogs are never walked and are allowed to urinate and defecate within the pen. Admittedly the owners pick up after them.
However, I pity the person who uses this pitch after they have left, as it will be totally soiled/spoiled by the dogs. This would be especially relevant if a family, with children, are the next users of the pitch.
Does/should the club have a view on the way in which this pitch is being used/abused?

You will have asked the wardens what their views are. Care to share the response with us?

the pen is really in place of leads, and a dog(s) on a pitch tethered by a lead will act and behave in the same way, so I suppose it is just the amount of dogs that concerns you?
I suppose that as the club allows no limit on the number of dogs then it does have a view that what you describe is acceptable. However if it is ruining the pitch then that is another matter but will be dealt with under existing rules I would imagine.
As a non dog owner I do not know if such an arrangement causes damage (assuming the owners are careful as you say) so can't really pass judgement.
Personally as long as they do not cause annoyance to your pitch, let the wardens deal with any issues and enjoy your stay?

Simon, the Community Manager has specifically asked that complaints and queries about dogs and their owners on sites should be taken up with CAMC. There is a contact link for Rowena, maybe you could look it up and bring the matter up via the link. As others have said, if it's of immediate concern contact the wardens on site.

As the wardens walk past the pitch many times during the day I can only guess that they are perfectly happy with the situation and will have been aware of the number of dogs when they arrived.
What concerns me is that the dogs are allowed to foul the pitch in a way that I have never seen before. Most dogs are walked and defecate away from where an awning would be pitched and often in designated areas.
I have deliberately refrained from making my views known about the number of dogs as that is the surest way to get this thread closed and moved to the dog section!

PS. Have you really started this thread without discussing the matter with the warden who should have been your first port of call?

Simon, as above, I don't think 'dog' comments are 'allowed' on CT except in the 'designated dog area'....so this thread will quickly be closed as if the issue never happened....
however, it seems that dogs are allowed to foul in areas other than the 'designated dog area' ....
just goes to show which 'offence' the club views as the most serious...
i sympathise with what you're obviously feeling, to have posted what you have, but if you're looking for more you've come to wrong place here, I'm afraid...
i agree, coralling up a group of dogs (does 5 qualify as a 'pack') with a 'fence/pen' (and letting them dump all over the pitch) certainly isn't keeping them under close control and as you say I thought they had to 'excercised' (euphamism for peeing and dumping) off site?
i also agree with the lack of thought for subsequent pitch users....
of course (as every dog owner keeps telling us) it isn't the dogs' fault...
If the club's view is that this is an acceptable way in which this pitch is being used (abused), then they need to change that view.....
i don't mind dog friendly but what about member friendly?

Suggest you have a chat with the Warden, and see what their take is on the situation. You must be carrying out 24 hour surveillance on the pitch to be clear that the owners are not walking the dogs at all. Hope the Warden can clarify the position, then you can get on with enjoying your stay. 😁

BB, I sympathise with Simon's concerns for the pitch but what I disagree with is the manner in which he has gone about airing his concerns.
The first step should be to speak to the warden and the second to the club itself. Simon has been around this forum long enough to know that his post was inflammatory and inappropriate. Something I thought you, too, would understand but it seems not as you have chosen to fan the flames with your remarks.

TW, it's all very well hiding these issues behind the 'speak to the warden', instruction but this does nothing to raise awareness of this type of issue...nothing to do with fanning anything...
this is a discussion section, for discussing CT issues.
so, what's Simon to do?....come back on here and report that
a) the warden did nothing
b) the warden had a word with the 'offenders' and got the pen removed and the dogs looked after without it...
c) the warden had a word with the 'offenders' and they weren't happy with the 'advice' and were ejected...
d) any other scenario...
just pretending it didn't happen doent help educate other owners does it?
I thought bringing all dog owners up the high standards of those who post on CT would be a good thing? perhaps not, it seems...

The wardens may as you say walk past the pitch many times during the day (are you checking?) but how would they know that those pets are exercised away from the pitch or not at any time? It's only when a fellow member voices their concerns with the warden that things can be monitored. Hey, why not be memberly and ask the member yourself why they are not exercising their pets elsewhere?
Many members have pet enclosures and the ones I've experience of have been very responsible and when they've left you would never know a dog has been there.
I've said this many times on this forum, your first port of call is with the site warden. We're there to help you have an enjoyable stay and help with any issues you may have.

As valid as your comments may be there is little that can be achieved by posting it here on the forum. In the first instance you should have discussed it with the wardens. If you felt their actions were insufficient then you have the choice of either writing to the Club or completing a review of the site. This forum is not really monitored by those that would be able to form policy on such matters. As has been mentioned the Community Manager has asked that subjects like this are not discussed on the forum as nothing can be achieved by doing so. I will therefore close this discussion and perhaps encourage you to follow my suggestion of contacting the Club direct.

Hiding? How on earth do you make that out? JK's post tells you it’s not hiding the issue to speak to the warden. In fact, it’s the reverse and is highlighting the issue to the warden and then, if necessary, to the club who can amend rules to adjust people's behaviour as they have done with lead length and tethering instructions.
Nobody is pretending it didn’t happen but some of us are attempting to point out the correct approach for addressing the issue. Making a post with snide comments about packs of dogs (where have I heard that before?) and innuendos about dog owners achieves nothing other than to further inflame the situation as you knew full well when you posted.
