I’ve only got a couple. I’m very much liking the Armandii I planted late last year. It’s called ‘Enham Star’ and although only small at this stage, the flowers/effect (a month or so ago) was fabulous, scented too.

Ha..... I can beat your 14 hosta, we have sixteen different ones in at the moment. I purchased latest one last week at a farm shop near Helmsley. The florist there specialised in very unusual foliage plants and some more unusual garden plants. I spotted a Montana, but unlike anything I have seen before. It is pale pink, but flecked with stripes, and has double flowers. Only gets to three metres as well so not as overwhelming as some Montana’s can be. I can’t recall name at moment, but will post it when home from Mums.

Nelly Moser was Dad’s favourite, one I like as well.😁

That's interesting please post the name. I had to get rid of my Montana to make way for a green house , very invasive but had a lovely  show of flowers.

Great, reliable Clematis, not your usual one but it never misses a beat, it starts flowering around the beginning of June & just keeps giving. I’d be surprised if anyone knows or grows one, they are not widely known-

Sorry I forgot to post this hosta, it’s a Clematis Montana Marjorie. Hoping image works below.

Hurrah, it worked. Small flowers, quite unusual, reaches around 4 metres I think, so not a bully like most Montana’s.

Is it possibly a Vitacelli Rocky, or something like that?

We have a Cirrhosa Freckles, it flowers from late Autumn through to Spring, grows quickly, lovely spotty drooping flowers. It on a South wall of house, so gets some Winter warmth from brickwork, buts is absolutely thriving.....I cut it back with shears

I do, it’s a herbaceous clematis ‘Hendersonii’ it has a habit of not tanglingly deviating, it just goes straight up😊. Great for covering boring areas.

Rocky, Is the picture of the Blue clematis the same clematis you show in pink? Does it change colour in full flower?

Yes, we have one of these as well Rocky, quite a dark pink.  Lovely plant, less of a spread than usual Montana.

Hosta, are you possibly mixing up Rocky’s Hendersonii, with my photo of Freckles? Both have rather downward drooping flowers. Apologies if you aren’t.😁

Have you got these? The pink one is Princess Diana but I've lost the name of the pretty little lilac one. They do well in shade and we've had good cuttings from them too. They're in flower now and will repeat. smile

Not got either of those brue, but interested as I need a nice climber, not too invasive for shady spot. Thanks, will investigate further.😁

We lose quite a few Clematis (wilt?) so we have only got the Princess Diana thanks to cuttings. We grew Marjorie, it was fantastic then died on us! frown

Montana’s are the beasts of the Clematis world DD, at least some are. Great for covering an old building, or running along a long wall or fence, but they need to be savagely pruned every couple of years. We have a couple that must be close to 15 metres in length, I have hacked one right back this year. Stay away from Montana’s and you can get some really nice ones that climb no more than six/eight feet, and die back almost to ground level over Winter. Good for getting some height and colour into a border if grown up an obelisk. I have a couple, different flowering times, up each side of two arches, mixed in with climbing roses. They are easy to grow as well, just a couple of things to get right.😄

Sometimes things go badly wrong! My OH is now banned from ladders (rather ironic considering he was a firefighter). But steer clear of things like Montana’s, and you will be well rewarded. I have a thug of a grapevine that I used to wrestle with every year, it was kill or cure this year, as we took all the posts out that it climbed down, and put in a couple of rose arches. Despite cutting it down to a stump, it’s now up to top of arch, and showing some tiny bunches of grapes! I swear you can see it growing if you watch it😂

Thanks. smile Tomorrow I'll have a crawl round in the undergrowth as OH assures me there is a label somewhere, the mystery will be solved one way or another (it's a very pale all over lilac colour.)

    Thanks hosathousey. smile

laughing In the interests of this thread I've now crawled into the undergrowth and found a label on my mystery clematis (which I must say is growing well in deep shade and is smothered in flowers just now.) It's a Viticella, named Betty Corning. LINK And as a bonus it's scented.

I bought this clematis this year and it's already doing well. Bought for its colour, it's called "Nubia".
