Overseas Site Night Vouchers

Have any members experience of using the club replacement for Camping Cheques? The latter were recognised  by site receptions but I wondered if the club specific vouchers were so easily used. The final year of camping Cheques was a problem and like other members of these discussions we ended up with a couple of unused cheques due to sites pulling out of the scheme.

I bought four last year - 2018 still got one, Camping Bologna wouldn't accept it, and this year Camping Haro wouldn't so still have one left, will use this in September. They are on the pricey side but in our case gave a good discount on the ferry which more than offset this, without a discount its not worth it. There is a list of sites that have chosen not to accept them.

That's interesting Tigi, both Haro and Bologna are in current Venture Abroad Brochure  listing and neither are in the list of non participating sites. I was afraid this might happen - Camping Cheques were part of a much larger scheme  while OCNVs are C&MC specific.

Club site vouchers aren't anything to do with Camping Cheques, except they were the club's attempt to be able to offer a replacement 'something' which could count as part of a package of ferry and accommodation.  Have you phoned 'the Club' and asked why their own vouchers aren't being accepted on their 'Inspected and Selected' sites?

I did indeed and got a refund for Bologna but haven't bothered with Haro (Spain) my other half tells me the lady at the site said they took them last year but not this year.

Used some at Camping Bled on way to and from Croatia in May no problem just had to pay local tax. Vouchers are expensive but just buy them as part of cheaper ferry package. Just consider them a free nights camping.

Thanks for replies. I agree they are only really worth it when you get them as part of the very competitive ferry package - as were Camping Cheques in the past. I think best bet is try to use them early on the trip to maximise number of sites you try to use them. Seems some do and some don’t ! Hopefully by the time we work our way south through France in September more sites will have come across them.

I got 4 to get a better ferry price but no sites in the area I visited were part of the scheme so useless really.  I think we should be able to use them in the UK at club sites - after all we have paid the club for them, do they wouldn’t lose out.

There is a list of sites that have chosen not to accept them.

Where can you access this list? We have used our 4 from last year but have 4 from this to use.

It's on here, Allan - go to Terms  and Conditions of site vouchers at the bottom of the Buy Site Vouchers page

Just checked that out, many thanks ET.

We have 4 of them to use, looking at the list Haro is listed as NOT accepting them.

Looks like a stop at Amfora is called for (not July or August)

The most popular of the 'winter' Spanish sites do not accept them either frown

We had originally planned to meet up wit( our friends at Haro so being unaware of the list would have been caught out, but then I think it’s ACSI anyway so not all bad, and had  4 vouchers that I couldn’t use.

Now we are aware will need to remember to check the list for next years trip!

We used our 4 vouchers from last year at Domaine Les Ormes, a site that we wanted to see as a possible venue for holidays with family and to visit St Malo and Mont Saint Michel.

Maybe expectations were too high, it’s a Castells site and has lots of positive  reviews, but we were disappointed with the site overall and the apparently new sanitary block we used had an awful ‘drains’ smell the whole time.

One thing we really dislike is pitches with high hedges and here you felt you were in a green box with no view of anything other than the hedge.

We didn't know that some of the sites in the 'Venture abroad' magazine had decided to opt out of the vouchers either, if I hadn't seen this post I'd still be none the wiser.

Would be good if the club could highlight that fact.

Me2. Perhaps when originally registering it was a case of sticky keyboard?

The bigger mistakes I have made in life have been millstones round my neck, but hey, Rowena might yet correct this small one.  Love to all x
