Parking at Caen/Ouistreham

Hi All,

We are with friends who are booked to cross back to UK on an 0830 sailing from Caen. They have been ‘advised’ that parking is not available/safe currently but BF website clearly states parking in check in lanes is allowed.

Any recent experiences would be useful.

Brittany Ferries allow overnight parking in the check lines at that  port after the late night ferry has left - but as that is not until 2300 most people prefer stay overnight at one of the three campsites conveniently close at hand.

I for one would not be relaxed overnight parking in the external holding lanes at the port. Unless the authorities have really clamped down on public access since last year.

We keep a few km away at des Capuncies in Ranville, up to now we have been free to be totally relaxed there.

Nor would I be happy staying overnight in the holding lanes.  Much more relaxed to stay at one of the local sites (eg Riva Bella only 1 mile from the port!).

There were around 60-100 migrants milling around Ouistreham last year  a few outside Riva Bella, didn't seem to be a problem for the likes of us but plenty of police around and we did see a bit of unpleasantness between them in Ouistreham. All in all, personally I feel happier on a site, the barrier at Riva Bella is opened at 0630 for ferry.

If you want a worry free night forget about parking at the port and stay at Riva Bella.

    Thanks for the replies.

As said this is for MH friends who usually park as close to the port as possible, and not on sites, but seems there are no close aires so think they will have an early start on the day of departure.

To save opening another post.  Can someone confirm that Riva Bella still stays open to receive those on the evening ferry?  I will be arriving Ouistreham at 2130.

Yes they do but told us last September they would not accept us without a booking (essentially so they can avoid queues of people trying to pay with cash etc) Whether they actually do refuse those without a booking is I would have thought a bit unlikely but perhaps a recent user can confirm. We've booked for this year it does make entry a lot easier as they just wait by the office with a list and in you go.

Hi David, it’s their decision as you say but they usually don’t us sites hence the enquiry re stopping on the port.

Laughed at the step comment as they are still using a Fiamma one that I recovered from the bin at Bella Italia years ago!
