Great garage service in Pougny, near Sancerre

Just had more than 3 weeks in France in our trusty wee Symbol...well trusty until the starter motor completely died on in St Satur just outside Sancerre.  Luckily we were parked in an OK place and our breakdown services (Britannia) were able to get someone out to us within about an hour...and that was on a French public holiday, Ascension Day.  The breakdown truck driver was very friendly, helpful and patient with our scant knowledge of engine related French and when we arrived at the garage (Depan 3000, Pougny) after our van was winched aboard his truck, we discovered that he was actually the owner, probably doing the public holiday shift!  His garage was kind of in the middle of nowhere, but had a huge fenced forecourt (Fiat and Skoda dealership too) and so he immediately said that we could sleep in the van there if we wanted to, til it could be looked at the next day.  We were tempted but it was a bit isolated so we took up our breakdown cover's option of a taxi to a hotel for the night.  However when I tried to offer Msr Delasauvage the fresh chicken I had bought for our tea but would now be unable to cook, he said no, no but would you like to put your van on hook up while it's here so that your fridge will keep things fresh?!  Brilliant.  And indeed when the van was fixed (starter motor replaced later the next day) even though it had been moved to the workshop it was still plugged in!  How's that for service, and actually it was also less expensive than we feared.

Brilliant service.  Absolutely loads of years ago the starter motor went on our car whilst on holiday in France.  It was a bank holiday weekend and the garage owner couldn't source another part - so he set to and 'rewound' it himself with copper wire!  The little garage where it was done is still there, but sadly closed down now.
