Petrol Stations in Portsmouth

Can anyone recommend an easy access non motorway petrol station near the ferry port? Would prefer a straight drive through rather than one where you face the kiosk.

The large Tesco, just off the M27, before you peel off onto the M275, has some easy drive through pumps on one end, when viewed on street view.

There's a petrol station a stone's throw from the roundabout that the ferry terminal is off. Though perhaps not the easiest to use with a caravan in tow.

Many years ago I managed to coast to it as I set off from Whale Island & promptly ran out.

As MM says if you stay on the Motorway into Portsmouth you will see the Shell station on the right, go to next roundabout and back on yourself, Kiosk is to the left, so a drive through possible, then you are on the slip road straight into ferry port very easy.

Thanks. Last time we went I missed the entrance to a petrol station and ended up in a single track cul de sac. Quite challenging !!! Not the way to start a relaxing holiday.Going this Sunday via M25 and M3. Never Know what time to leave to allow for any hold ups or not have to sit too long at the port.

I wonder if the picture posted by Steve is the Hamble Tesco? If so it does have easy access through the station if you get to the right pumps. Is it no longer cheaper to fill up with diesel in France?

I think that's off the M27 at junction 8 David. The one pictured is near the start of the motorway spur down to the ferry terminal, junction 12.

IIRC, it was around €1.38 this morning on the drive to Calais from Ypres. I'm still using my €1.10 stuff from Luxembourg. smile

If you search Shell Petrol Portsmouth look for the station named Four Square its very close to terminal. There is a google map showing its location you need to go south along Mile End Road around the roundabout and north again up Mile End Road, Mile End road is a dual carriageway station is directly off.  The one negative point you can get quite a long queue going into Portsmouth at some times of the day but as long as its not last minute you shouldn't have a problem.

The Tesco at Northarbour is cheap and easy access pumps for caravans. Slip road heading back west along the old A27 just before the M275 spur down to the ferry.

Hello Mr H. I just noticed your post 10th June (Monday).

Instead of leaving the M271 for the ferry port at Junction 2, continue to Junction 1. Keep to right lane and then after a few yards of dual carriageway go round the roundabout to come back towards the ferry port. There is a Shell garage where you can drive in and out quite easily. Two minutes from the ferry port as the crow flies.

You mean M275. The M271 runs down to the western docks at Southampton.

I cannot believe that when it came down there were those who thought it had architectural merit and should be preserved. It was dreadful when it went up and didn't improve with age.

Not being sure if you're going to France or Spain from Portsmouth but if you are going to Bilbao I would suggest you get your tank as low as possible before boarding the ferry and fill up in the port at Bilbao. The filling station is just after you get off the boat before you leave the port and is the cheapest I have ever found in Spain.

It was €1.07 lit for diesel end of April when we came back

Wow! That's about as cheap as Luxembourg was last week.
