Just to let you all know who helped out last year we didn't end up abroad due to ongoing work commitments,we are however going next January and would like assistance on a few things.

We are leaving the caravan at home so driving solo, 3 passengers and 2 dogs, travelling to Malaga region in January for 3 months, we are going next month for a week to look around for a place to rent and register with agents etc.

Here goes:

I understand Brittany ferries go Plymouth/Bilbao but I don't see any dates/ times/ prices yet !!

If need be will will go eurotunnel and stay enroute in France then Spain for 3/4 nights on way down.

The dogs are jabbed up (rabies) and have passports, do we need crates for ferry or if by rail do they just stay in car with us.

What do we need for the car i.e. road signs, headlight stickers etc for driving abroad and anything else of help, is it best to avoid tolls to keep costs down !

We have checked out plenty hotel/motel places on way down, will book return journey once  away whether that be ferry or chunnel.

Anything else you think we may need please let us know, last time I drove abroad would have been around 20 years ago.

Thanks in advance.

Check out the Overseas Holidays tab above, HA. There is useful info in there relating to your queries.

There will be Ferries from Portsmouth to Bilbao and Santander, and the timetable for next January will most likely be published in July. If you want one of the few cabins where you have dogs with you instead of in the on board kennels you will need to book very promptly as those cabins go very quickly. Those are the two options  for your dogs on that route and you certainly don't need crates, but the ferry service from Plymouth to Spain is usually suspended in the winter.

Headlight adjusters really depends on the make and age of your car. We have a 2015 model that doesn't need them. Best checking with your local dealer or give further details on here.

If you are going for a week soon then I assume you're flying.

Yes, tolls will add costs but it will be quicker and most chain hotels can easily be found just off them.

No idea how Brexit will affect you as everyone still in the dark. Keep tabs on the thread on this forum.

Don't forget to organise your motor and home insurance for your extended stay plus any long stay medical insurance.
