May day BH changed in 2020 - affect bookings?
Just seen this on the BBC so assume it is not a wind up
Next year's early May bank holiday will be moved back by four days in England, Wales and Northern Ireland to coincide with the 75th anniversary of VE Day
Now Friday 8th. Surly this will affect bookings (not just in the club) to those who booked on the original BH weekend?
And, for those that have booked on the 8th? will the non peak price still be honoured?

wonder how much 'lost' income that will amount to?
I've just rebooked (and taken a screen shot)
I suppose with no one at head office that price will stay till Monday at least?

just checked on the site I'm on and it's a 'saving' of £2.50 per (SP) pitch fee and £1.90 per adult.
Multiply that across all sites?

but doesn't that mean that those who booked for the original BH weekend will still have to pay peak prices?

I saw the same info via a link on FB just now. Didn’t realise Corners had already posted, so inadvertently duplicated the topic. Going to cause a few problems, I think. We don’t normally go away that weekend because I like to attend our local events, but it all culminates with a procession on BH Monday. Wonder how they’ll get around that one 🤔

No worries, the more people that get to hear of it sooner is better?

Aside from the booking issues, what about people who run events and have booked venues well in advance, not to mention weddings etc and holiday bookings which might be affected. I think this is poor planning and too short notice by the government, after all VE Day is the same date every year, surely this could have been decided years ago- they knew it was the 75th anniversary! An extra bank holiday may have been more appropriate.

Yes, I saw that. It seems a lot of people think it's a scam because of this.

I think I read somewhere that this bank holiday was last changed 25 years ago to mark the 50th anniversary of VE Day. So they haven't exactly been particularly short of time to decide on this! It must hit a lot of the leisure and hospitality industry hard being announced at this comparatively late date.
I'm just waiting for one of our prospective new leaders to come up with the wizard idea of making it an extra BH, not an alterative one. Must be a vote winner!

I THINK IT IS A SCAM organised & run by the Government !!!
Sorry for 'shouting' but if the government think it's worthwhile having a Holiday to celebrate the end of WW2 in Europe its worth giving a days extra holiday, not moving one from later in the year ( even if only from a few days later ).
It first came to my attention when a couple were upset 'cos their party arrangements were fixed for the Bank Holiday Monday and many of their guests could not afford to lose the day from their annual holiday allowance and will not be able to attend because of this.
Moonstone has got it right

read today that some calendar firm have lost hundreds of thousands of pounds with their pre-printed calendars.

Seems as though the club have moved the goal posts over their pricing in view of the changed dates.
I have a site booked during that new period and it was confirmed at the book price not the new price some time ago. I have just received the following email from HQ.
Dear member
As you may be aware the government has moved next year’s May bank holiday from Monday 4 May to a new date of Friday 8 May 2020 to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of VE Day.
We noticed that you have made a booking for the NEW bank holiday weekend (8 May).
Site pricing for the original and the new bank holiday weekends are in the process of being realigned to reflect the movement of the dates. We wanted to make you aware that you may notice a small increase in the price you were quoted when you made your original booking.
If however you wish to amend your booking, we wanted to bring to your attention the original bank holiday weekend (4 May) will have a small price decrease applied. To view the updated price for your booking you can go to the ‘My Profile’ section of the website and view your booking. In addition we will be sending out a revised booking confirmation in due course.
For more information please get in touch with our Contact Centre on 01342 327 490 or email UKSitesBookingService@camc.com
We wish you an enjoyable season of touring with the Club.
Best wishes, the Caravan and Motorhome Club

Even for the existing BH dates when the price will reduce?
They can alter it but you’re not forced to buy the site nights. I’m sure it will be in the small print somewhere.

well at least it's good to know so many of us are using the year ahead booking system, I like it

Yes, it’s quite surprising to see so many taking advantage.
