Marker boards in Spain if over 12 metres?

We’re off to Spain next week, and the combined length of my outfit (car + caravan) is 12.19 metres. Spanish Regulations state that outfits over 12 m requires yellow marker board(s) to EU standard ece70 to be fitted to rear of caravan.

what experience do people have of this? Do you bother to do this, especially if the excess length is as small as 0.19 metres? Or is it a must-have?

if needed, anyone know if they are sold in shops on board Brittany Ferries? (Portsmouth-Bilbao).

I can if necessary rush to the nearest HGV Direct store (recommended stockist) some 30 miles away but interested in experiences/views before I do so.

thanks

For such an inexpensive item why risk it? I haven't needed them but know owners who have fitted them. I have not heard of anyone being stopped or fined for not having them either.

I have fitted one of these boards for the last few years of travelling to Spain. I gives peace of mind, as has been said, if you get stopped by the Guardia Civil you never know what mood they might be in. Bungee cords attach it to the rear grab handles so it is easy to remove and it lives under the bed when not in use.

Thanks guys. I’ll be off to buy a pair but they’re not easy to find!

I ordered mine through eBay and received them within 4 days. I can't remember the exact price but it was under £20 including postage and packing.

Luckily we have a branch of HGV Direct only 25 miles away, so I popped over there to buy. We set off tomorrow so I’d left it late!

Over the counter price was just over £14, but they do mail order on line if anyone else needs a set.
