Arctic circle

going to the arctic circle can involve 3 time zones, 9 countries, 14 border crossings, 4650 miles driving, 32 fuel fill ups.....  and that’s what my wife and I along with our 2 year old daughter and 2 cats have just achieved!

If anyone is thinking about doing it, go for it! Stunning scenery of frozen rivers and lakes, ice roads, reindeer herds crossing the road, isolated roads of 2-3 hours of nothing but trees, no phone signal, no houses just peace!

If anyone would like to see our trip a Facebook blog is here. https://www.facebook.com/Arctic-circle-caravanning-320388548668788/

If anyone has a question please feel free to ask.

Could you possibly copy it into the Stories section here, JB? That would enable those of us who don't do FB to view it.

David, in your usual helpful way of moving things to more appropriate sections, is there any way you can lift this tale out of FB and put it in Stories so we on CT can all share it?

Apropos of this, I do feel it's sad when people post stuff on facebook. Very many of us refuse to use it for a variety of reasons.

I do have a very minimal fb account as I need it for a couple of things but I resent it every time I use the site. And would certainly not bother for something of peripheral interest, which, if it was hosted here, I may well read.

I agree entirely, Ian. That’s why I feel someone - the OP or a mod - could help by posting this in Stories rather than simply directing us to FB.

Out of interest TW what can you see when you click on the link. For me on my android phone I can read the link easily. Is your link blank or does it require fb sign in?

Both, Brue. It requires FB login/account creation but if I ignore that and click Personal Blog I only see a blank screen.

Is it possible for you to scroll further down below the log in bit and see the blog? That is what I do when looking at FB posts which are open for viewing?

The blog is v interesting, thanks JB,  I'll look at it again when I get home, what an adventure! smile

I can see there’s something down there but the flaming login box keeps obscuring it. I give up!

I have scrolled down past the log in box to look at a few photos, looks a lovely family trip.

Many years ago, we parked our Suntor camper van up at Hexham Racecourse. Rare little vehicle, but we were stunned to return back to site to find an identical vehicle next to our pitch. Inside was an 82 year old gent who was returning home after his three month trip up to Arctic Circle. We spent happy hours over a drink with him as he related his travels. We had nothing but awe for him, a true adventurer.😁

Totally agree David. I don't use facebook much as I hate the format. Had a quick look at the start of the blog and thought 'not a trips that I would do now if it needed 34 refuels on a 4 week holiday' wink

Well done Jimny. What a fantastic journey, something many of us aspire to but always seem to find an excuse why we can’t do it. It’s a journey you will remember for the rest of your lives.

I am not even sure with the OP's permission that would be possible. I am not even sure I can move the post to the the Story Section but I can move them the other way. For it to become a story I would want the OP to flesh out the content a bit and add some photographs rather than just having the link. I have no idea if he would be willing to do that? As things are I think the OP has done the right thing by posting here as it is a useful resource should anyone be thinking of a similar trip. It is certainly a mammoth journey, especially in a caravan and with young children. Even if you are not on Facebook you can click on the link and read and view the content once past the annoying login information.

    David

he shouldn't have to feel he has to, but it's all about being courteous to fellow posters?

I'm sure that JB thinks everyone has FB, a common thought anyone younger than me, but if you start a thread on this, a public forum, then it should be just that, open to all?
