City Europe

Greetings All. Does anyone know if you can still park overnight on the city Europe car park where the motorhomes park. We are going to France and want to leave Dover Sunday tea time. Thought if we camped there for the night we can get an early start Monday morning. I know people used to but can you still do that? Your experiences gratefully received.

Campercontact.com on line website is your best source of up to date information for that stopover,  also for the new municipal Motorhome aire in Calais itself, and for the 20 other possibilities within an an hour of your arrival. That website will give you photos, costs, and reviews for each of them and the interactive, clickable map search is easy to use.

Yes, you can park overnight at Cité Europe but personally I prefer to get well out of Calais to find an overnight stopover.

As said above - use Campercontact to find Aires for overnight parking and also -  https://park4night.com

Thank you for your replies. When we have parked there to shop it always seem a safe place to stop but have never overnighted. But I do believe people do. I assume you are allowed but confirmation would be good.

Sorry, but I don't understand why you are still asking for confirmation about being allowed to stay there overnight.

Keith and Margaret have replied and said Yes you can, and the website I referred you to this morning has reviews from people who have stayed overnight recently and given opinions about it.

It's a supermarket car park like many others, and people do stop overnight there. Be reassured !

If you are heading South on the A26 then the Autoroute Aires are worth considering. We have stopped dozens of times with the caravan overnight at Aire de Souchez about one hour from Calais or Aire Baralle about 1hr 15 mins.  Both are away from any major city junctions and are 24 hour services, well lit. There are other similar. I believe there may be a motorhome service point as well.

Thank you Hitchglitch. We will be travelling that way. We have never stayed on a motorway Aire before and sounds like a good idea if we fancy a drive before we kip down for the night. You have never had any problems using motorway Aires before.

    Never stop on Motorway Aires.....

Cite Europe is open 24*7 and we have stayed a few times, always safe and secure (police station on site!) but it is just a car park.  Arriving late evening as you are going to be then it is great, 10 minutes from ferry, bite to eat couple of beers then bed.  Different if you are arriving say early afternoon and wanting to sit out, though we have arrived later in the afternoon and sat out with a beer in the sun even saw someone BBQing...

The new Aire in Calais https://www.searchforsites.co.uk/marker.php?id=26796 is also good if you want something a bit more structure..

But there are lots if Aires or sites within 30 minutes of Calais depends on what you want or need but Cite Europe is a good choice.

Thank you MichaelT. That's good news and we will definitely give it a try. We will be arriving about 8pm and early start in the morning so sounds perfect for a few hrs kip.

I would be interested to know why you say not to use Aires. We used them every year with the caravan. We have parked in the caravan places and in the lorry areas and never experienced any problems nor heard of any. After all, the French do it all the time in their cars and, of course, it’s a regular for lorry drivers.
