I do understand your point, DD. You are lucky in that you have an Esso station near you offering unusually low prices. Most Esso stations, because they are independent operators, cannot match the subsidised prices of the big supermarkets. The PK discount brings the Esso prices down to the same ball park as the supermarkets.
All I can speak of is my experience buying diesel at home in Shrewsbury and on tour in Cornwall and Scotland. Most of the time, it’s been worth using my Esso card. When it wasn’t, I’ve used my normal credit card at a supermarket. You just need to check the prices on offer and then make an informed decision on whether to use your Esso card or not. Easy. I’ve certainly saved money filling up my camper van on the PK card over the last few months - and the savings match up to the claims made by Rowena. I admit I was one of the sceptics because of the botched introduction of the card to club members, but it’s now working fine for me.
As for using the card abroad, it’s been covered earlier in this lengthy discussion. From what I recall, it’s probably not worth it and PK don’t appear to offer any discount on LPG.

Having used the card 5 or 6 times now (all without a hitch in terms of acceptance or billing), I have to say that it has the potential to turn into one of the best member offers the C&MC have. (I had to wait nearly 3 months for my card in the first place, so I was somewhat cynical at the outset, especially after reading others' experiences).
Yes, you have to consider whether how the pump price compares to the PK price but that's simple, and if you can find fuel cheaper elsewhere then that's great. Having a variety of payment methods is never a bad thing.
Where the card really came into its own for me was on a recent tour in Scotland - the PK price was consistently cheaper than anywhere we saw, including supermarkets.
It also allows you to fill up at those motorway services with an Esso, which is a great convenience, especially when towing.
Recently the PK price has also been on a par with or less than supermarkets and other filling stations near where I live, which is an added bonus.
Esso produce an app which allows you to search for filling stations, either near your current locations or by typing in a location and panning around near it, which is a handy addition to planning a trip.
I guess that means I'm a convert....

May I ask a question I used my Esso card first time on Sunday. I paid at the counter costing £24.99. A few days later I had a receipt from pump king and checking today they have taken £24.27.
May I ask will I be refunded £24.99 for my original purchase and if so how long does it take?

You were never charged the £24.99. That's what the fuel would have cost at the pump price.

My apologise just re-checking and the figure I was looking at was actually the week before. I just happened to spend 2 amounts the same, but didn't check the date. Sorry about that and thanks for the reply.

I tend to agree. It's a useful card to have, although it does have limited use here at home, when I can usually get fuel cheaper than using the Esso card. It comes into it's own when I am elsewhere in the UK where the price of fuel is a little higher.

Must admit since we've had our card, it's been used regularly with no problems whatsoever. No pin number etched onto the card, never been billed twice, never had a problem with the card being accepted and around here it's always been 1+2p per litre cheaper than Asda and Sainsburys and 4p per litre cheaper than Tesco. I feel for those that have had problems, but for us it's been really useful and long may it continue.

Latest discount price is £1.312 a litre. Local Esso service station is £1.319 so a grand saving of £0.007p. What happened to the 5p saving a litre promised by Rowena in her first post? Over the past month the highest amount to be saved per litre been less than £0.02p so hardly a saving.
I am getting more and more convinced that it was a ploy to sell on our contact details to third parties. Since signing up the amount of junk mail has increased by over 100%!
We hardly ever bother to use the card now as it is not worth the savings as by the time we have done the detour to fill up, we probably used up any savings in fuel even if I put in 70 litres at a saving of £0.02p a litre making it a saving of £2.80. Hardly worth the small detour of about 3 miles!

I used my pump king card for the first time on Thursday 30th May and all was completed at the garage without any problem and my card was accepted.
I’ve since tried to login to their website but it won’t accept my login details and doesn’t recognise my email address or mobile phone number. I’ve now realised that I didn’t receive a text message on Friday 31st telling me the costing for fuel from Monday 3rd June.
Has anyone else received the text with costs from Monday 3rd June?
Having read lots of the posts on this discussion I know the money isn’t taken from my account for a few days, can someone give me an idea how long it takes and when I can expect an email from them?
I will ring them in a few days if I haven’t heard!

On the way to the National I was able to use the card for the first time "for real" on the motorway network. The reassurance of knowing the price in advance was good, but what was really heartening was the 22p per litre saving on the pump price.
This will be what gets the average up to the 8p mentioned in the original post.

In one of my earlier posts on this subject I quoted that if it looks too good to be true then it very often is.
Why would I want to use my Esso card at a cost of £1.315 when I purchased from J Sainsbury at a cost of £1.229 last Friday,unleaded fuel.

There seem to be very few motorway Esso service stations and I am not sure how you can find them? Generally we make sure that the vehicle is full before we leave and that it has enough fuel to get to our destination or stop over where we can disconnect and fuel up again. Obviously those travelling from further afield may not have this luxury.

Thanks. Only one on the M5 and as it is only about 30 miles from our home so unlikely to use. The A routes could be handy. I wonder if there is an Esso POI for the Satnav that you can download. There is an app for the phone but it is to pay.

You have to register to use the main features of the app. I haven't bothered. There's a button marked 'station' at the bottom of the home page which still works. Just toggle the map from 'mobile pay stations' to 'all esso stations' and all my local essos pop up.
Though I notice that a fuel station which recently changed from esso to texaco is still on the map/list.

Last night I filled up at the most expensive Esso filling station in Bath safe in the knowledge that my discount would be applied by Pump King. Imagine my annoyance when I had to pay this astronomic price because my card was not accepted. I have used my Esso card some six times without a hitch. Today was the first time it had not been accepted, in fact the attendant said that his screen said that my card had been stolen! Has Pump King disabled all the old cards that were originally issued? I wonder if I am the only member who has not received the promised new card?

Me too, used the card 10 days ago with no problem but today declined with no reason given.
The email to Pump-King has not been answered.
Will anyone at the Club explain why cards are suddenly declined for no reason and what steps are being/will be taken to prevent this happening

I bought about £30 pounds worth from Esso on Sunday. I would normally expect the approval invoice by email on Wednesday. Its only one day late but it still hasn't appeared. Something doesn't seem quite right, I wonder if there has been another IT issue ?

Another successful fill-up for my camper van today with my PK card. This week's regular diesel price of £1.258 a litre was a 14.1p saving on my local Esso pump price in Shrewsbury and 3.1p cheaper than the nearby Sainsbury's. I asked the Esso till operator whether there had been any problem with PK cards not being accepted after reading about recent issues mentioned by forum members. She said she had always been able to get them to work and suggested operator error might be a factor.
You do need to keep an eye on prices as the PK rate does vary. Regular and premium diesel seem to offer the best chance of saving money. Last week's unleaded petrol price of £1.315 was no cheaper than a couple of Esso stations in Stafford so I filled up our car at the nearby Asda at £1.267. This week's PK unleaded price has dropped to £1.262.
Your location is another factor. I was on holiday in the St Austell area last month and may have been able to save money if there had been an Esso station anywhere near. There wasn't. I found a cheap Gulf station instead.

No still not resolved !
I did intend to phone them but the number on their letter that I received with my card is not recognised.
I emailed them on Tuesday 4th June but haven’t received a reply to date.
I still haven’t received any text prices messages either but I have filled up again on Thursday 6th June using the pump king card which was accepted.
Oh yes no monies have been taken from my bank account so effectively I haven’t paid for the fuel yet either !
