Overnight on Caen Ferry Port

We are getting the early ferry from Caen to Portsmouth, in previous years we have parked our caravan at the dock and stayed overnight.  Does anybody know if this is still possible please?

Brittany Ferries will say you can park in the check in lines after the last evening ferry has gone - if it's on time that leaves at 11 pm. so they ask you to wait until midnight. Other people arrive earlier than that and ask the security man if they can park out of the way at the side.

A lot of people use Seasonova Riva Bella (ACSI 1355) .  It is very convenient for the port.

Oops sorry, should have gone to Specsavers....I read your route the wrong way round and was thinking of Portsmouth.   For parking overnight at the Caen end I would say talk to Brittany  Ferries about the current situation with immigrants and security there.

We took this route last year - you may want to be aware that there were an increased number of migrants in Caen and camped outside Riva Bella - we did not feel safe staying there although the port was safe with lots of police officers / security staff

The BF website port inf for Ouistreham says:

    Parking
As well as parking in the port car park, you can park your vehicle in the vehicle check-in lanes overnight (after the last departure of the day) if you are travelling on the first departure in the morning.

Your vehicle is parked at your own risk and should not be left unattended. Toilet facilities are open 24 hours.

I personally would not park at the port overnight. We have used this route for the past 3 years and used Riva Bella, which is fine (even though there are a few 'migrants' outside the site).

When we sailed home last year on the 08.30 ferry, there were several 'migrants'around the check-in area, one even in the lanes after check-in. I think a lot of the police and security people are just 'going through the motions'

When we arrived in the dark last Saturday, as we drove to Riva Bella, there were 'migrants' walking in the direction of the port, presumably hoping to secrete themselves onto a vehicle.

So my advice would be, use Riva Bella.

Thank you  for all the above information.  After posting my query we ended up off line for a week!  We have booked  Riva Bella on our way out as we are on an afternoon sailing going to France, so we will take all your advice and stay there on the way back too.  Better safe!
