Campsite Le Suroit V Seqouia Parc

Hi All,

Considering a visit to the Royan/Rochefort/La Rochelle area and wondered if anyone has used these sites?

Seqouia is more expensive but if we book the price difference is minimal but, of course, then ties us to staying there.

Any other recommendations welcome!

    I presume you're going outside the ACSI Card season (see www.campingcard.co.uk) as Le Suroit is an ACSI Card site between the following dates 01-04-2019 - 07-07-2019 and 25-08-2019 - 29-09-2019, so each night will cost just 18 euros, but in addition they do the following discounts:  Extra discount: 7 nights for 6 / 14 nights for 12 / 21 nights for 18 / 28 nights for 24.  I've just seen that Sequoia Parc is only 21 euros but it's difficult to work out when their low season rates are but that's not a bad price.  Of course in peak season both are hugely more expensive.

    On UKCS there are 20 reviews of Seqouia Parc giving it 8 out of 10, and just two reviews of Le Suroit, but giving it 10 out of 10.  On Zoover Seqouia scores 7.4 out of 10 and Le Suroit 8.2

    Whilst we haven't been, I hope this helps, and if you knew all the above already then at least it may be of use to someone else reading the posts and trying to make up their minds.

    Hi ValDa, we will be within the ACSI season.

    The main reason for the post is that we are away for a shorter period than usual and meet up with friends for just two weeks prior to a visit to Puy Du Fou, so it will just be the one site stay hence wanting to get a feel from others who may have stayed at either site, or indeed any others in the general area.

    Seqouia is €25 a night till 29/7 and then jumps to €37. The discounts available are good but appear to only be available if you book.

    Suroit is a well liked campsite close to the sea, though on a rather dull island. We keep trying and failing to love Oleron. 

    Sequoia Park wins many awards and has a wellness and fitness centre, sauna, hamman, jacuzzi, massage rooms, spa treatment, weight training and cardio something, playgrounds, multi sport pitches and lots more, but it's set in marshland. Not really my cup of tea so I have no knowledge of it. 

    Alternatives to look at are sites at Chatellaillon Plage and La Palmyre.  Out of season I wouldn't book for any of those - that coastal stretch just has a six week season and some sites actually close at the end of August.

    Hi Euror,thanks for the reply.

    As you say Sequoia is well blessed but for us its the pool complex that is attractive.

    The only reason for even considering booking is to reduce the price, our MH buddies that we are going to be with go faint at the mention of anything over €20, so trying to get a feel for things.

    Your mention of La Palmyre is interesting as my wife suffered terribly with mosquito bites when we stayed there and I have seen comments about issues with mossies at Sequoia. Have considered Port Au Punay but there is a rally on at the time we would be there so concerned about there being space/decent pitches.

    Our own favourite site in that area is Camping Atlantique Foret at Les Mathes - it's small, attractive  and select,  and has a relaxed rather than a regimented ambiance, just a scattering of informal pitches in parkland with pine trees dotted here and there. But the prices are well above ACSI rates, there is no pool, the location three miles inland wouldn't suit motorhomers, and the site owners run a very short holiday season. So one man's meat  is always another man's poison ... Best regards to you.
