LPG Gas filling stations
In the light of a recent thread about the apparent closure of LPG pumps at filling stations I came upon the idea that we could start a list whist filling my new safe filll cylinder (other makes available).that it would not be a bad idea for those of us who have found filling stations that are still selling LPG to post them on here.
So here is my contribution to start the ball rolling.

That’s really useful, peedee, thank you. There appears to be a couple of filling stations local to me that I wasn’t aware of, and good coverage across the country (assuming it’s all up to date). I assume this is all suitable for use with Safefill? I looked at their site and didn’t find any very local stockists, but perhaps that’s only to get the cylinder. Once you have that you’re away. Have saved the website for future reference, should I need it.

I ordered mine direct from the safe fill website. Ordered it in the afternoon and received it lunchtime the following day. why even mess around lokking for a stockist with that sort of service? There are other makes of refillable gas cylinders available if safe fill doesn't suit.

That is very interesting! I have to say that this is the first time I have heard of this . Road duty - obviously similar to fuel duty in petrol or diesel- why is there no reduction on gas for domestic use at other points?? I have to say, Andys Gas is an excellent outlet and I go there when visiting my daughter in BRISTOL. Thanks DD for the heads up.

I believe it has always been the case Merve. Garages sell LPG priced and taxed, assuming that it is for vehicle propulsion and probably cannot amend it anyway. I did visit Jacksons of Old Arley, sometime ago and they have an LPG pump with a sign that says they cannot sell LPG for vehicle propulsion, only for refilling of Safefills etc.
I did read a tale somewhere of a garage employee who became aware that the LPG requested by a customer was for domestic rather than propulsion use and refused point blank to sell it as it was taxed wrong or some similar reason, probably followed by a sharp intake of breath..
As for me, I don't really mind if it happens to be a few pence extra, I'm happy just to be able to continue to buy it from garages, and at the end of the day, it isn't any different to buying a gallon of unleaded in a can, including the road duty, and then pouring it into a petrol mower.

We have quite a few outlets near us😁luckily, but here are three located close to major routes:
Texaco, Sheffield Road, Tinsley, just off M1 at Meadowhall junction
Morrisons, Catcliffe, just off Sheffield Parkway A57, again only 1.5 from M1 junction 33
Morrisons, Bawtry Road, Bramley, Rotherham, 400 metres from junction 1 of M18.
All are easy access for large vehicles.

Found this link to another list of LPG providers, organised on a county basis. Not sure how reliable it still is, but it certainly comes up with some outlets that we know are still active. Again, not sure on filling of cylinders policy
Wentbridge Services on M1 have an LPG pump as well

No wishing to go off topic but with regards to gas filling at the stations mentioned are the pumps generally on the nearside or offside of the vehicle or are they just a mix? Obviously they are not as numerous as petrol and diesel pumps so just wondered if the had a fixed side.

Usually its on one of the central islands so you can enter from whichever side suits your vehicle. Only once, have I ever had a problem, that particular pump was on the left side adjacent to the kiosk and our filler is on the offside so I couldn't get near it.

They can often be accessed from both sides DK, as the nozzle for delivery tends to come out of side of pump stand. Most of the ones we use, you attach nozzle to tank filler, it locks in, then you lean on delivery button until tank is full. No need to hang onto hose as with petrol/diesel. They can be fiddly to lock on, some twist, some have a pull lever. Unlocking tends to make most folks jump at first, you get a last release of ice cold vapour and a big hiss. Hence the very large protection gaiters on delivery nozzle. We haven’t come across any other types, but of course we are filling a car, not a bottle/small tank.
We have a cottage on Dartmoor booked later in year, and are considering taking our dual fuel Jeep. We used to fill up with LPG at the garage going up Haldon Hill near Exeter Racecourse, Kennford I think it is called. Any up to date information from a local would be helpful, thank you. It was a tad hit and miss last time we were there, working, not working, working......

I have in the past considered Safefill but decided against it due to the sparse availability in Cornwall.
I even had a look again this morning, as the Haldon Hill garage is on our usual route out of the SW, but the nearest in Cornwall is 34 miles away, but in an area that I would not travel through , and the nearest one in an area we do travel to/through regularly is 50 miles.
Interestingly I was chatting with a neighbour last week who was working on his VW MH.
He was fitting a dedicated filling point for his Gaslow cylinder after being refused a fill up in France last month.

Had to think on this one. Yes, that is Northbound, we used to go under road from Racecourse and swing left into Services. However, the garage on the other side, Southbound, based at Kennford before Racecourse also sold Autogas, as we were much miffed at being blocked out of only delivery hose one time by a petrol tanker. We have used Carland Cross services and the one in Hayle by Premier Inn as well to fill up. There is another on road out of Helston towards Falmouth that had a pump as well. I know Sandows Garage in Rose an Grouse (near Penzance) stopped selling it. There are loads of domestic lpg suppliers in Cornwall, I wonder if any of these are also able to help with MH tank fill ups?

The good thing about MyLPG is that it is confirmed by the customer. Marita who keeps the website up to daye(almost) is easy to send an email to and he replies pretty quickly but even here, don’t rely on the info entirely. I went to get some gas from a station in North Norfolk at Alby I had used numerous times and which had been ‘confirmed ‘ some 10 days earlier. When I arrived the gas rig had been removed as it had been taken over by BP. On enquiring when it was removed I was told at least 3 months earlier!! Was someone mischief making?? As I have said, always ring the garage or outlet concerned- it’ll save a wasted trip. I have written to BP suggesting that perhaps they look at this decision again as it is a big tourist area with thousands of holiday makers visiting every year and LPG is needed by caravanning families. Not even had a reply! Oh well, I’ll keep trying!

There are loads of domestic lpg suppliers in Cornwall, I wonder if any of these are also able to help with MH tank fill ups?
I think this sentence illustrates my reluctance re Safefill.
There are lots of LPG cylinder outlets that I pass frequently but almost no LPG pump outlets that will allow cylinders to be filled and , based on my neighbours experience, that sems to be becoming the case in France as well.
If there was more certainty I would certainly be getting a Safefill cylinder.

I haven't noticed any difficulty filling our Gaslow in France, in fact there are LPG pumps at very many petrol outlets....better than in Spain, I'd say.
from the interactive map it looks like over 1300 LPG stations in France.
obviously, I can't say that those would also allow filling Safefil.

I suspect the problem here Allanandjean is education. It isn’t the Safefill cylinders or the Gaslow cylinders or the Alugas cylinders that are the problem- it’s the concept that cylinders can’t be filled and indeed, before the new dawn of refillables, that was the case. However, due to work done by Safefill, and I make no apologies for saying that because it was Safefill that secured the rewritten Red Guide from PELG, and incidentally making UKLPG change their Sht 26 which stated quite clearly that refilling cylinders was a no no to Sht 37 which covers the filling of refillables!! I have often said that as a group, and there is over 1,000,000 of us so our influence is not insignificant, we should get out there with information that can be obtained from Safefill and educate these filling points. They are losing business and that lost business is increasing by the day as thousands of cylinders fly off the shelves to new owners. It’s always the chicken or the egg in these circumstances and the outlets who have seen the advantages of the refillables are now getting increased foot fall to get them refilled. Every time we are refused refill, we should be handing out leaflets and educating the owners of these fill points who are still living in the 1990s LPG has moved on, the rental cylinders, although still used by many thousands of caravanners, is not now the sole arbiter of how you refill your gas lockers. Take your cylinders- show them that they are safe to fill and that they have BEEN MADE to refill- give them a leaflet- that is the only way we will be able to bring some of these sites up to date. With a bit of work we should , as a group, make things better for ourselves.

David, As you are a moderator can I ask you to make this thread a sticky please. There is obviously an interest in the very useful information that members have already posted and refillable gas systems seem to be gaining in popularity.
