    Hi,

    I am thinking of buying this https://shop.caravanclub.co.uk/product/1998534/kuma-caravan-motorhome-4g-mobile-wifi-kit , does anyone have experience of using it? I just wondered how well the antenna boosts the signal. There doesnt seem to be many reviews online.

      Others are available. I’d check out reviews online. It appears to be a Huawei mifi unit with a signal booster which you can probably find on Amazon/eBay.

      Sorry, I can’t really help but I’d not take their word for it being a bargain.

      I agree re the tethering to phone is an option, but I guess I am more askng if the antenna is worthwhile. This is the part that drew my attention, I guess if i got this I could put my phones sim card in?

      I am wondering if this potentially has better signal and speed than my current phone?

      I go to a lot of Dog shows so I'm quite often in a field. I find that I do get signal but I am keen on getting a steady signal as I am doing an online course this year and I wouldn't mind having the option of streaming a few lectures whilst away.

      I don’t often say this but I agree with DD.

      I tether my Pad to my iPhone and it works like a dream but, if I wanted a separate unit, I would buy an unlocked mifi unit (probably Huawei) and run it off a 3Network Internet on Legs data sim which can be bought at a reasonable price in 12 or 24gb versions. Check out Amazon for prices of both.

      I would test that out before deciding whether I needed a booster aerial.

      There we go then. £65 or less for the Huawei and around £12 for the aerial. Quite a saving over the club's 'offer' which includes a data sim but only of 200mb p/m which is next to nothing.

      I use a Huawei tablet from EE on a monthly plan. It works extremely well without an ariel, 40/50 mb download speed, and I have a contact from 10gb per month which is sufficient for my needs.

      £3:95 from ebay. you can get the actual unit for free from 3 network and 8:50 for 10gb pm. Don't know if it will fit all the units though.

      If you search for similar items they are available with TS-9  connectors at the same price.

      We have a Vodafone MIFI unit from PC World on a monthly rolling contract costing £30 for 50GB. We use it in Spain and France to stream football and ITV/BBC. It also works with our SKY GO. Initial cost was £10.

      I have one of these Huawel units, but mine is connected to an external roof mounted aerial.

      The aerial illustrated is an internal aerial and is, I believe designed to be fixed to a window with suckers. I also use the 3 network with a "legs" data sim. 

      I'm on a site where my mobile iPhone is showing a minimum one bar signal strength outside but maximum signal strength when connected to the Huawel device inside our caravan.

      So for me the device is worth it's price.

      Thank you all for your replies, I've opted to go for a DIY kit and I have baught the huawei unit, aerial and 24gb sim for less than the price of the member offer listed. Hopefully it will all work well, Laura

      I put in a Huawei 300meg router which plugged straight into the 12v circuit once I soldered the cigarette style plug on the end of it. I then also bought a 4G twin polar arial for around £70 which gives us pretty much 4-5 bars no matter where we are. The router I bought also has an RJ11 socket on the back which allows you to plug a standard landline phone into it. So now you also have a phone signal even when your mobile phones don't. Whole setup was probably double what you might pay for a MiFi but I believe the benefit of a connected phone and improved signal makes it well worth it.
