Member Offer: My Esso Card

PK receipt arrived this morning, after Saturday's stop at the motorway services, and thankfully I've been charged the PK rate, not the pump price of £1.53 a litre
Like my last receipt this one was made out as a VAT invoice, but the bottom line was correct, so no worries there. The only shame is that the PK site rejected my attempts to change my payment method to a credit card - not the end of the world.
Having the ability to refuel at motorway services (albeit a limited range) is a real plus point of the scheme, especially when towing.

Not sure where you manged to get £37 from as none of the membership fees are anything like £37 🤔

Nothing to do with Pumpkin however thsi morning we noticed that Morrisons gave you 5p off a litre fo fuel if you spent over a certain amount.
Last week their price was £1.29 per litre however today the price was £1.299 a litre. Seems a bit of a con for unsuspecting suckers?
We hardly ever spend more than £40 in Morrisons when doing our weekly shopping!

Individual membership is £33.60, so yes, I was a little bit over. But it still boils down to the fact that you have to be a member! It is the same for those quoting Morrisons, you have to spend a considerable amount to qualify for the price reduction.
The point of the Esso Card is that those who use Esso can get a reduction, if people want to use supermarket fuel fine, just don't compare their price with Esso!

Card registration
Can you advise how to register a replacement card? The instructions given with the card are not appropriate, the website does not exist and the phone number is unobtainable. I got instructions by email to log in which I did but there is no link to enter a new card number and the existing number is not editable. Where is the missing link?

It might be worth closing your existing account, waiting a few days and then creating a new one?
I was pleasantly surprised to find that my account and data seemed to be completely erased when I closed it.

Thanks - when I tried to register my Tesco Mastercard last week I got a banner at the top of the screen saying that PK does not accept credit cards (must have recognised it from the card number).
I'll give it another try later this week now that the last transaction has cleared - will try a different credit card too.

Strange. Is yours a newish card at all? Mine was issued in 2017 but had my CC account with Tesco for years.
When I first signed up with Pumpking (or myessocard as it was) I did try to register my credit card and got the same message so something changed behind the scenes.

I had a PK card (which was never used as the cost was always higher than I could get locally) and decided to close that account due to all the problems discussed on this forum.
Now it seems to have settled down and PK reportedly accepts credit cards I decided to reapply and keep it in case it became advantageous to use eg motorways.
The two credit cards I tried to register with were both rejected (must use debit cards say PK!) so I tried with the card I had originally used.
This was also refused on the grounds that the details of that card were already registered and held by PK.
Now here’s the thing..
When I Deleted User my original account I (eventually) got an email from PK as follows
Since you have Deleted User the account all personal and bank details will be Deleted User from the system.
Kind regards,
Pump-KingSo, if that is true, why do they STILL have my card details? Does this comply with data protection laws?
Would Rowena care to respond with an explanation or at least pass this to someone at the Club to comment.

I'm using my Esso card this week, down in Cornwall. Using the Esso Card, the actual price I pay will be lower that supermarket prices.
Also, some may remember I used my Esso Card at a fuel station where the forecourt price was cheaper than the price issued by Pump King for the Esso card. I've done this twice now, and each time it came up with the pump price (i.e. the cheaper price). It appears you do not get it 1p per litre cheaper than the pump price when the pump price is already cheaper than the PumpKing price for that week - you just get the overall cheapest price.

We were on the M5 last week, Esso was £1.51 at Gloucs services so we pulled off at Tewkesbury, a short drive to a local petrol station for 25p less a litre. We don't have a card and it's usually easy to find cheaper fuel near the motorway if needed.

Prices for petrol in the North West this week for comparison with Pump King are:-
Costco 114.7p
Asda 117.7p
British Fuel 117.8p (Texaco Tanker)
Texaco 119.9
Esso 128.8p
Pump King as advised by text for week 31/3/19
125.9p

David that is not was said in Rowena's opening post -see below
The saving varies based on the My Esso Card special rate and the Esso pump price rate. In the unlikely event that the pump price is lower than the My Esso Card special rate members are guaranteed to save 1p per litre on the pump price.

I have only used my fuel card on one occasion when I finally got up and running with the card.
You will see from an earlier post of mine that I was charged at the higher Pump King price and not even the lower actual Esso pump price.
I have not queried this as it may take me the next 3 months to resolve,as it did to get the card up and running

Interestingly, the club offers page no longer talks about a saving of 1p per litre.
Instead it says "in the event that the Pump-King weekly fuel price is higher than the pump price at an Esso fuel station, Pump-King guarantee to match the pump price."
https://www.caravanclub.co.uk/membership/member-offers/fuel-card/
This is yet another change to the Ts&Cs without us being notified.

I've just seen this under the FAQs, which is also new:
Please note that once a member has cancelled the account, they will not be allowed to re-register in the future.
I had hoped to come back to the scheme once it had settled down. I guess I won't be doing so now!

My card finally arrived so used it for the first time the other day.Card accepted and ticket showed original price £1.319 which I assumed would be normal. A few days later an email arrived showing a price of £1.255 which was slightly less than the supermarkets. Correct amount taken from my account so happy that all worked perfectly.

That is also new to me I also was thinking of doing the same, well it's their loss as I normally fill up when passing a supermarket with a forecourt

Yep that's a definite change. Rowena even a few weeks back also confirmed the 1p saving and even explained the process. think it was keep your receipt and contact Pump King or something like that.
Mind you if I knew that the pump price was cheaper than the offer price I wouldn't use my card anyway. Just pay as normal.

Where I live there is only one Esso station and it is not particularly convenient for me. However, I have driven through Halifax today and passed 2 Esso stations roughly 2 miles apart. The town centre station had diesel at 133.9p whilst the one on the periphery (A629 towards Keighley) had diesel at 127.9p.
So, it seems if you have an Essocard, in some towns it may be advantages, in others perhaps not, and in Halifax it may be considerably more advantageous in one filling station than another!

Please be aware that your original T&Cs when you signed up are still in place and those are the ones that apply, unless you have been notified in writing that the T&Cs have been changed. That is current legislation as passed by parliament and Pump King as to the best of my knowledge never notified any one of any changes to the T&Cs!
We have stopped using the card and will only use it for big fill ups which is only when we go away for a break as they take nearly a week to deduct from the debit card, they hardly ever send you an email advising of the amount to be deducted and basically it is a very badly managed organisation and not really worth the headache when you want to be relaxing.

After my 4th card arrived I emailed Pump-King saying it was impossible to login with new card, received a reply early today asking for new card number details arrived back with in an hour enabling me to have a new PIN number and start anew. Keeping fingers crossed when I fill up.

From the FAQs
Please note that once a member has cancelled the account, they will not be allowed to re-register in the future.
What on earth can their justification be - other than sheer bloody-mindedness.
I was going to re-join now that it seems to have settled down but if I can't then its their loss, not to mention reflecting badly (again) on CAMC for allowing petty conditions on a scheme they have trumpeted loud and long as being a benefit for members.
.

If they've Deleted User someone's data, how do they know if that person is rejoining?
1 -
Because, as I know from my attempt to rejoin, they still have all your card details "as an active account"
