Towing to Beynac

We plan to tow our twin axle Lunar Delta TS from Caen to Beynac via Tours and Limoges, with an overnight stop ( or perhaps two ). We understand we should leave the A20 just before Brive and drive West on A89, heading for Sarlat as this will avoid the overhangs on the more direct route via Souillac. Can anyone give advice on the best route from A89 to Sarlat and onwards to Beynac, please. There appear  to be two alternatives: D1089, D60, D704 or from J17 on A89, D704 all the way. Anything to look out for would be much appreciated.

    The FAQs on the campsite website say the best access is from the A20 at junction 55 (Souillac) and the D703 via Sarlat. You could e mail the site to check if you doubt the wisdom of that !

    The halfway point on your route from Caen ferryport is perhaps the site at Loches (La Citadelle) - perhaps two nights there to have a day to stroll into the historic town. From there once you reach Chateauroux the A20 motorway is toll free down to Brive .

    Thanks for your helpful reply. I read the FAQ from the site but the member chat from Practical Caravan recommends avoiding this route and leaving the A89 at J17 then taking the D704 and the D57 via Sarlat to Beynac. Has anyone else any comments? Thanks for the suggestion of the overnight stop at Loches - we have often admired it from the autoroute but never stopped!

    We do this exact route every year. We’ve done all the different ways after Brive, but find the best is straight down to Souillac. The toll is small & it’s faster & easier. We enjoy stopping off on the way down at Le Mans & Limoges - chateau Leychoisiez just off the motorway. We love the journey with the stops. We stay near Castelnaud. It’s a great area & Beynac is just lovely.

    Hi TomSue, Thanks so much. I have just “driven” the route from Souillac  to Beynac via Sarlat on Google Earth ( hadn’t thought of this before ) and it seems ok. What is the drive through Souillac like? I presume you come down as far as J55 on the autoroute.
