Why are our sites so much more expensive than C&CC

I will just add. The C&CC have been offering a range of discounts this year, some sites had a 20-30% discount offer in July (for anyone to use.) It pays to look at their web site if you are flexible about places you might like to visit. smile

Can recommend Highfield Farm Touring Park on the other side of Cambridge - the April price for 2 people in a Motorhome without EHU is £17 , or with EHU £22 . So not the absolute cheapest but an altogether nicer and more spacious campsite, family owned and family run. But they do charge extra for dogs !

Yes they can unfortunately spread rapidly, as these recent shots from a site in Derbyshire show.  Sorry somewhat off topic.

But do you think the club wants the booking system to work this way? I suspect not.

I am amazed nobody has referred to the new booking system being introduced later in the year highlighted in the membership tab  'A new booking experience'

'We’re really pleased to let you know that changes to the online booking experience are coming in 2019. In the first half of this year, we’ll go live with the new booking experience for overseas sites and crossings. By the end of the year, you'll be able to book UK Club sites too!'

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news for all the eager beaver bookers and cancellers but I wouldn't be at all surprised if a deposit scheme is introduced.....I could of course be completely wrong!

Yes, we’ve already thrashed through that possibility which may be why it hasn’t been raised again.

For the record, I’m not a habitual canceller and I’ll pay deposits if required.

No news there - just speculation. I suspect that most will wait and see.

Yes either way it won't affect my booking patterns. I think I have never cancelled a booking.

    Back to the OP

I think it is just down to perceived quality?

    ET

You always seem to recommend this this but it is in the middle of nowhere! If the purpose of your stay is to visit the City of Cambridge both the CMC and C&CC sites have an advantage in terms of public transport nearby, although from memory the CMC is better in that respect. The extra cost involved might well be mitigated by the need to spend more money of fuel and parking to get into the City. At the end of the day it boils down to what you want from any location, for us being nearer to something is better.

Location would suit me fine David. As you doubtless know I stay 5 nights on a site and move on and would visit Cambridge only once. The Maddingley Road P&R is a 10 minute drive. £3 every 15 mins. Of course, as a caravanner I have a car and so the 2.1m maximum height is no problem wink

Cambridge is very cycle friendly and the route from Highfield to the city centre has a cycle route...around 30 mins, less probably on an ebike.

however, park4night lists in-city overnight parking areas and, as I drive a MH, staying on any of these is 'no problem' eitherwink

So we can cross Cambridge CAMC site off those sites needing an overnight aire building then.smile

Cambridge is a very cycle orientated city for locals ,but they give no quarter to "visitors" and they know when you are not localsurprised

We decided we would like to visit St Ives in Cambridgeshire in early June, so yesterday I started looking at options. found 4 site we liked the look of, 3 commercials and one NT site.  then looked at Gratham Water and booked 6 nights there as it came in cheaper than all the others for an awning pitch, 2 adults and 2 dogs.

Perhaps the CCC's policy of taking a deposit actually means they have less last-minute cancellations, hence the overall pitch utilisation is higher leading to a more efficient and cost-effective business model?

I doubt it. I am booked into a C&CC site for 6th May and there is a strong likelihood that I shall have to cancel. I shan't know how strong that likelihood is until about 1st of May. So I shall not rush to cancel. I will lose the £25 deposit money anyway and so I shall wait until the eleventh hour just in case.

...but at least they have the £25 to fund your first night no-show, then the pitch reverts to available (I presume) just like C&MC.

do you think that is a good system, giving away £25 when at this club you don't need to?

Which makes C&CC much more expensive when you have to stay at home.😟

Not going cap in hand anywhere WTG for that sort of money. Our situation is that eldest daughter is having heart problems largely due to stress from an ex IMO. On blood thinners and Beta blockers and the day after we are scheduled at Sandringham she is pencilled in to have her heart worked on using electric shock under general anesthetic to try and re-regulate. Things are fluid. Next stop is St Neots. If the dates stay the same I shall set up at Sandringham, have a rest and then drive 500 miles to be with Sam as she is very frightened at the prospect

obviously, those happy with the deposit 'prospect' aren't concerned about the odd lost deposit as they aren't thinking of cancelling themselves....although it may happen, who knows.

my view is that they are more concerned about the 'greater good' of 'perhaps' reducing overall on spec bookings...a concern withn some as this point is aired regularly, whatever the 'view' of the club might be...

ET could you not just re- arrange your dates for Sandringham that way no deposit lost.

When using C&CC sites I rarely book anymore than a few days in advance, by that time I know for definite that we will be going. Apart for one or two of their sites pitches are usually available at short notice.
