Car free pitching

A tad different TDA. We have had weekends away in The Lakes where parking was round the corner. Not the same as when I have been out a large part of the day, return to the caravan and decide we will sit outside. Chairs and table out of the tow vehicle and when we go back inside the caravan tables back in the car. On a sunny late afternoon/evening might have several trips to the car. Replenish drinks in fridge etc.
On a caravan site such a provision where cars are no longer parked within 6 metre fire safety margins could reduce pitch availability by 20% and we end up paying more for less convenience. Not for me thanks.

Agree ET, it was a pain carting things backwards and forwards to cottage. At one bit I got Dad out of his wheelchair and used that for ferrying stuff up and down.
I can see the merits if the site is THE holiday location, and everything is on site, but as stated needs dedicated space and decent security.
Bladon Chains seems to be cropping up regularly as “soft” going. Not a site we know.

wardens might have been better to ring and check people were OK with it though, rather than waiting until they arrived.
No 'might' aout it for me Steve. If I am told that, as I am a cravanner, I must use a grass pitch and that the ground is too bad for me to park my car on the grass I am going to be very far from happy. It simply means that the warden has effectively wasted 5+ hours of my time travelling to an unsuitable site and really messed this customer about. If CMC don't care about that then you can inagine the impression that it makes.

We've never done it on a site either, but I've done it quite a few time when staying at Youth hostels in Scotland, eg Achiltibuie in Ciogach and in particular Altbeithe in Glen Affric!!

More and more common in newer sites abroad to park and walk.
It reduces noise and vehicle movements. I is considered safer and healthier. The majority of serious accidents were by cars on cycles or pedestrians and removal of the possible contact of the two is considered progress.
No preference either way for me but we don't want any of that progress stuff from Johnny foreigner improving our lot, it is thus and shall be always.

Perhaps Johny F has more land available or cheaper land prices I have no idea. I do know that whereas parking cars within the 6m separation distance is the norm then maintaining the 6m separation and parking cars elsewhere would severely reduce the amount of pitches on a set are of land by at least 20%

Not always the case David. Whilst we had sufficient space on one of our Dutch sites last year, the other wasn't your normal 6 metres, although to be fair the outfits were nose to tail with about 2 metres between each one, in a large oval. The German one was a mixture of the 2.
