France end of September early October
Hi All.
Recommendations for sites in South France that are open and busy at the end of September / early October. Somewhere around Perpignan area and on the coast.

Have you got an ACSI Card (www.campingcard.co.uk). There are 56 ACSI Card sites which are open on the 13th October. Several of them are only 12 euros per night, for a pitch, two adults, car and caravan, awning, and electric hook-up! These include Camping Le Ste Marie at St Marie Plage just north of Perpignan, and there are 7 other sites also at 12 euros! Have a look and see what you think. Use the search facility to put the last date of your holiday (and the day before) - this will ensure that you are only finding sites which are open for the whole period of your holiday.
Here are all the eight 12 euro ACSI Card sites
There are eleven sites at 14 euros, nineteen at 16 euros, thirteen at 18 euros and five at 20 euros.
Whether any of these will be what you call busy in October is anyone's guess, because in my experience over thirty-odd years, the French season is a short one almost everywhere, and even in early September some sites close down completely.0 -
I was going to suggest a couple of sites along that coast which we liked, but a quick check shows that both will be closing in the middle of September. Perhaps you could look at some of the sites in Argeles - there might be a bit more life there in the town than in places which are simply resorts and shut down so early.

Val is spot on; she has property not too far from Perpignan and so is more up to date than me. We used to live near Beziers/St Chinian and can vouch for her comments about the resorts being very quiet from mid Sep. France does tend to shut down so far as touring holidays are concerned mid September and in October will be very quiet with a limited choice of sites and less settled weather also the nights draw in fairly early. If you could go a little earlier, say after the UK August Bank Holiday, you would have a much greater choice of sites, could see the wine harvest taking place and have better weather - we plan to go then. If (why?) you want busy sites in late Sep you may be better looking at Spain, south of the Pyrenees the weather is better in Sep. When we lived in France we used to go to Spain in Oct as we would be extending the summer by a month; you would not need to go too far south to benefit.

Thank you for all the replies, We go to France a few times a year using our ACSI Card but have found most areas at the end of September only have a few people on them and the resorts very quiet, and wondered if southern France might be busier. So it looks like over the border to Spain is our best option.
Any suggestions on sites on the Costa Brava, we have stopped at Roses before and don't want to go much further as we only have 16 days holiday including traveling from Calais and back at this time of year.

I find the Med. depressing after early September. Many sites closed and everything looks a bit run down. We went to the Italian lakes last two weeks in September 2 years ago. Still busy enough to be lively and the weather was pleasantly warm.

We've spent the last 2 Sept/Oct's on the Med. We go the area around Agde the weather has been great and the sites busy.
Some of sites stay open there until the middle of Oct, while others close around the 6th Oct.
Be warned though that both years we've been there have its had high winds for days on end at the end of Sept. and once the rain starts it forgets to stop, we stayed on the site until its last day (Sat) then moved North, when meeting some one a few days later who had been on the site next door, he said it had rained heavily on the Sat night and the sites flooded.
I agree about moving into Spain come the beginning of Oct. however the bad weather that hits the French med coast also hits the Bay of Roses so possibly a bit further South might be better.
We will hopefully be going again this Sept - Nov but heading for Southern Spain come Oct.
Just to say the sites around Valras Plage close the middle of Sept.
