Speeding Ticket in France

Has anyone encountered the following problem before me ? On the morning of March 16 2019 I received a speeding ticket for an alleged offence in France on August 28 last Summer. The details of the offence match up to our movements that day but I am worried about the length of time that it has taken to get to me and when they are asking to be paid by credit card or bank details the word SCAM comes to mind.

Any one encountered his before and can confirm that it takes this length of time to come through ?? Just as well it was pre - Brexit !!!

You are not alone. See recent comments in the thread headed Speed Limits in France.

Well, from info on the following link France works with up to  a 360 day notice period, not our 14 days, and they seem to be coming thick and fast.

So if the timing, location etc is correct it most probably here is genuine, though you are wise to be suspicious of these things.

The legal advice is to pay it as if ever returning life might get difficult. The big plus, if looked at that way, is it comes without points on your licence. With the new 50 mph [80 kph] widespread limit these are going to be more common IMO.

There is also a thread running on UKCampsite about this subject and a number of people appear to have received speeding fines from quite a while ago.  See link HERE

We also received a fine from 30/09 last year, doing 88km in 80 limit, seems a bit mean but hey ho! Notice on the Motorhome Fun site that fines are coming in thick and fast. Someone suggested paying through Santander One Pay FX International Payment as no charges applied. Will go into my Santander branch and give it a go.

Thick and fast, might be because after we leave they’ll  not have any means to access to the DVLA surprised

    Definitely AD

What makes me laugh is they sell/auction registration numbers that are obviously of little use unless the spacing of the letters/numbers are illegally spaced, effectively inviting people to break the law.

My brother just got a ticket from france 84 in an 80 limit last august !He admits it is probably correct but they seem a little bit "keen" bearing in mind speedo error etc.

I think you will find the 84 kph is after the 5% is taken off for speedo error, (speedos always read low anyway)

From my experience over the years most read fast.ie 60 mph on speedo is usually around 57/8 mph actual. This true even on my 2015 model.(do the french make a 5% allowance ??)

Agreed from 2 to 5% low between makes, never known a speedo to read true (except truck Tacho's)
