Member Offer: My Esso Card

My card – as previously posted – shows 75% of my PIN. I raised this with Pumpkin and they said it's random (as I previously reported): we now know that a considerable number of us have the same issue, so it seems unlikely that it could be random. I rang CAMC about three weeks ago about this issue and was promised that I would be phoned back by the person who set this all up: 'Tolga'(?) This has not happened. Then yesterday I received a further new Pump King card (interestingly posted in a CAMC envelope) with instructions to to activate (as before), so I thought maybe this is to get rid of the PIN issue. However, I have kept logging in and I can't input the new card number as instructed as there is no 'activate new card' option available … So I can't activate the card and don't know for how long my current card will continue to work.
Anyone else had this latest problem?
The saga just goes on and on.0 -
yup mine the same, am i worried, not one bit, as i have said before if you have used Paypal/Amazon/Ebay etc all your details are out there. Used card today saved 6 pence per ltr over my local Shell garage, but do agreee this promotion has/is a fiasco.

Its not random, I've got 3 out of the 4 numbers of my pin on the front also. Not used replacement card, as it took an age to get money back when they took a payment twice, a previous IT issues ?? and bizarrely Pump King prices are now more expensive than my local Esso.
Obviously this hasn't been tested thoroughly, before being rolled out, and comments from the club saying its been overwhelmed with applicants, surely it was discussed how many members the club has, so they should have known it was going to get thousands of applicants, when you state headline grabbing savings.

Just to think outside of the box for a little while, if, instead of cutting up the whole card if one was concerned about PIN security, one was to cut off the corner bit that shows the PIN?

The difference with this fuel card is that it is linked to your debit / credit card. If the cards themselves were used fraudulently, there is every chance the bank or card company would block it due to unusual activity. Certainly happened to us, all I did was buy two mobile phones in separate transactions. After that we went to the supermarket and my card was declined. Due to the lengthy period that many are reporting between buying the fuel and it getting back to your authorised card, quite a sum could build up if it was being used fraudulently. Given the problems with the card I would not have much faith that Pumpking would pick it up.

It is said that if an offer appears to be too good to be true it generally is.
i registered for the fuel card in December 18 and rang the help line on a number of occasions by Mid Jan 19.
I left a number of requests to ring me back but they did not respond.
i finally got up and running with the third/fourth card that I received by the end of February 19.I took the opportunity to fill up at local Esso station with a pump price of £1.1690.I was asked for my registration after inserting my fuel card and gave my vehicle number that I had used when I registered for the card as this as not the registration number of the vehicle that I had filled up,which the till operator said that was ok.She did not want me to input my PIN number to complete the transaction as she advised that the vehicle registration was only required.
The advised price by text for the fuel card was £1.205.
The Esso pump price was £1.1690.
I was charged on my debit card £1.205
Fuel prices in the area were
Costco £1.119
Asda £1.134
Tesco £1.149
Texaco £1.1590
Esso £1.169
There appears to be a number of problems attached to this offer including card security. It also appears that a number of external companies have personal details as provided by the card operator.Incorrect prices charged on card at much higher than the pump price etc.,
Last but not least is the recent receipt of 59 offer text to advise the weekly fuel prices.
I have attempted to keep this post as simple as possible but there are a number of questions about the offer that appears in the Caravan Club Magazine along with further comments made by The Caravan Club in recent posts etc.,

Also have the last 3 digits of pin on card, so this is obviously deliberate.
This is poor security and would not be something any other financial organisation would do.
This needs addressing urgently.
thankfully my card is linked to an account I dont have money in unless I transfer it for a payment online, so any fraudulent activity would not fleece ME.

It’s been said before in this discussion, but you don’t have to give vehicle registration number or mileage with the club’s Pump-King card. The cashier will ask for them, you just say you don’t need them and it should go through without. Last time I used my card I noticed the cashier simply inputted the number “1” when I said I didn’t need mileage.
Reg and mileage figures are an optional requirement used by some employers who want to keep close tabs on their fleets. I know because I used to use fuel cards for my personal company car and cars from our works fleet. Some cards are linked to specific cars. Some cards, such as our club’s PK card, can be used for any vehicle so reg and mileage are superfluous.

Scary moment. Text received from Pump king. With an apology as well. Good news, it's been about 3 minutes and phone is still quiet.

My local forecourts have gone up this weekend whilst the PK prices have gone down:
120.9 petrol (0.0p PK saving)
130.9 diesel (5.5p PK saving)
144.9 premiumD (11.0p PK saving)
134.9 premiumP (8.2p PK saving)
So REALLY worth it for premium Diesel, but not for standard 95 petrol (and Tesco premium 99 petrol is only 121.9p.....).
Average saving of £5 / tank on premium D x 5 tanks per month (2 cars) = £300 / annum saving for me (or 12 nights site fees)

I'm pleased to report that my account seems to have been completely Deleted User.
When I try to log in, I get "Sorry, unrecognized username or password".
If I try to reset the password, I get "Sorry, <my email address> is not recognized as a user name or an e-mail address."
So, success. I seem to be free from PK.
If the club get under the serious issues I raised then I'm happy to come back - but until then, the savings are not worth the cost.

....by the way, if you have not yet spotted it see here
Esso appear to be swapping from Tesco Club Points to Nectar Points around June of this year. Please use the other thread for your thoughts and comments .. 👍👍

I hope I'm not speaking too soon but- After a 3 month wait my card arrived, I went online and registered it, used it last week saving 3p a litre on Esso prices and 2p a litre on Morrisons (only two options in Buxton). So far they have taken just one amount out of my account.
So far so good!!!

I hear a rumour that it's now possible to change your PIN?
