Bailey Pursuit damp
Purchased a 2015 Bailey Pursuit in October. Just collected van after service and dreaded damp report shows 100% reading of damp under fixed bed and bathroom. Dealer has submitted warranty report to Bailey for authority to repair, problem believed to have been caused by locker door, but can this explain bathroom damp reading?.Any comments/advice would be appreciated.

Where in the bathroom? Could be cassette door. I had the header tank drain pipe fall off and dumped water into the cassette area. This registered as a damp floor several months later.
Bed locker, door is a favourite, but just check if there is a roof joint above bed. Check wall adjacent to joint to see if there are signs of drip marks down the wall. Maybe pull the plastic cover of the roof joint off to see if there are signs of damp.

100% damp! You didn't pitch in the wrong place at a site with a swimming pool, did you?

Is there a possibility the waste from the wash hand basin or shower tray is lleaking? Are the hot and cold water pipes and connections all good? Could be many problems.

I suggest the damp under the bed (from side locker door?) is the same water leak that has been leaking for some time, has the c/van been serviced since new?
Did you get all the warranty paper work from the dealer,? some have a 10yr water ingress warranty, it was an add on to the standard 6yrs ,
If these questions are not answered I would be inclined to go for a rejection of the van

Yes I have confirmation that it has a 6 year bodywork warranty due to expire 21/3/2021, from both the dealer and Bailey .It has been serviced by the dealer I purchased from since new, and was assured by the dealer that there was no damp when purchased, when asked for the damp report was told no paperwork is produced when nothing to report . It does seem strange that the level of damp has occurred since October when I purchased the van. At the end of the day I presume I can only wait for Bailey to confirm remedial work can be carried out under warranty and keep a very careful watch .Thank for your help.

It was more a response to the 100% figure. It would be literally running with water at that level of damp.

It is feasible and may require replacement of affected materials. But always feasible.
I suspect that you may not have an absolute right to reject the purchase but I am not in a position to give advice on that.
Personally, and this is only my view, if I had a van like that repaired I would get shut ASAP since I would always wonder what other joints had been poorly sealed.

I think it is only the floor that is made of wood the rest of the Alutec Bailey's are made of non permeable material, and as it is the floor area that is wet if the "leak"is rectified it may just be able to be dried, if the wood is soaked through then it may have too go back to Bailey for a new floor, I think a serious talk with the dealer is called for,and it a load of rubbish that a damp test zero? result would not generate a report ,I have had a report on every service of both our Alutec Bailey's as they fill the form in as they test for damp
I suggest the dealer is not being truth full about the October service

I agree with that JVB. At the least I would expect a sheet ticking the tested areas and the generalised comment 'all moisture content found to be in the range 15% to 18%'. If the van had a damp test I would be sceptical that it was not from the time the dealer added the van to stock rather than immediately prior to resale.

When we have the van servicd a damp report is always provided and also shows a schematic of where the damp tests were carried out, even if no damp is found.

My money would be on a leaking shower tray since we had a very similar problem with our Barcelona before we sold it. Even though it had only been leaking for a couple of days or so, the damp readings under the bed and at the other side of the bathroom, around the toilet were 45%+.
The problem is, is that there is nothing under the edges of the shower to support it and over time, the sealant gives way - often quite difficult to spot since it only needs a pin hole for the water to get through.
The fix was relatively easy in our case but it did mean the dealer removing all of the bathroom fittings and furniture to be able to lift the floor covering so that it could dry out - which they did within a week.
Why other manufacturers don't employ the same technique as in our new Knaus Starclass is beyond me - that has a 6" upstand built into the shower floor, so there's no way water can get through.

I would await the response from Bailey through the dealer and assuming they accept it under warranty then there should be no problem. If for any reason there is a problem or dispute then post details and we can look at your position against the dealer under The Sale of Goods Act or any finance or credit card company.

Thanks for your advice. The dealer has agreed to do the necessary work under warranty including replacing floor as required.Upon my investigation I have seen the external door is not watertight as water can be seen clearly running down inside of door, which I've reported to dealer and have subsequently gaffer taped over external door seals.
