So what did the Club ever do for Motorcaravanners?

I’ve not belittled it, BB, ever. It’s simply not for me. As ever, I accept we like different things and have different standards. I never put down another's choice. 👍🏻

Quite like the idea of Aires BB. However I would not be particularly keen on the Canterbury model, or a Lidel car park. Something like the German one OP posted a picture for, or the Campingcar one I was looking at. Priced at between 12 and 16€ a night, with a sensible amount of space, we will certainly give a go.

We like the idea of Aires BB. However, the Canterbury model,or a Lidel (insert other supermarket) car park, holds little attraction. The German Aire in OP 's photo or the Campingcar ones I have been looking at online, which have significantly more space, are much more attractive. OK this comes at a cost of 12 /16€ but at least you can't shake hands with your neighbour out the windows.😂

Many, perhaps even most, supermarket car parks are not owned by the supermarket they serve, but the landlord of the buildings.
However, as supermarkets and other large high street businesses close there could be a lot of space available. In fact, as out-of-town malls also close there could be a lot of big sheds available. Anyone for indoor aires?

well I've just managed to catch up but it took a while as I kept getting a server error.
A few things come to mind.
Those that use club sites the least want the most changes, some sort of inverse square law. Even better are those who won't even join yet want changes but then say they probably wouldn't even join then.
Certain motor homers want something for very little, and even better want that paid for by a club which is not all for motorhomers.
If motorhomers don't feel that the club caters for them then find sites that do, (I would say the same to caravaners btw) but I don't think there are such sites in the UK, and club sites and members are full of each .
while the server errors were going on I watched a video by Baldy catz who was talking about wave particle duality, for those who mended shoes for living that is how light can be either a wave or particles. Neither one attracts a majority, both hotly discussed, but light works just as well with either. A bit like the club for motorhomes and caravaners?

Well that seems to work fine for Lidl there, most of the UK lidls that I have been into in UK seem to have barely enough space for peak shopping days/times in the week. The one in Chester has plenty of parking but is on a shopping complex shared with other businesses and where parking is limited for all

I am not sure where the OP thinks the Club would find all these parcels of land that would be suitable for motorhome aires? By their very nature they would have to be near town centres, and even if a little further out they would need good transport links. That means the land would be expensive and also have to compete with other uses that the local authority might decide would take priority. The Club already have Baltic Wharf which is almost a motorhome aire but the local council are doing their best to build on the site!!! I still maintain that the best involvement from the Club would be to encourage local authorities to provide these facilities, probably in existing car parks.

Agreed David - thinking of some of the alternatives already mentioned, a large Lidl supermarket has just opened up on the outskirts of our town. As we drove past today we remarked that the parking spaces looked far more generous than at our nearby Sainsburys. So maybe the opportunity is there if only someone - anyone - who is keen for these facilities to be provided would make the effort to lobby for them!

I just wonder what would happen if they (MHs) didn't leave the next morning?

no need to be rude BB though easier, why not state your case if you think my post is incorrect?

"There have been quite a number of on-line petitions over the last few years lobbying for Aires. ....
....All have failed; maybe because of the wording of unrealistic demands????"
Or possibly because there is actually insufficient demand/interest for that facility in this country? (Just a thought!)

and that is a big problem, our 2 LC's Gosport and Fareham who control most of the seafront from Portsmouth to Warsash are actively discouraging MH's by installing height barriers, and banning habitation in car parks, where there are provision for high vehicles habitation is not permitted, but we still have a few persistant offenders who park on the seafront which is free, have diesel generators running on the pavement and hose down the drain. There is a local by-law that again bans habitation on the seafront but somebody has to police this ditto with the car parks and this would need financing, £5 per night, i dont think so. I think if regulations were relaxed we would see a big influx of MH's staying for much longer than 1/2 nights.
I am sure for the likes of pubs, they are hoping that the bar takings will improve, bet they will not be so keen if said MH's have a picnic evening meal and drink their own drink
