Age Concern

Each to their own😁 With a bit of thought, and a bit of modification, there’s a touring option for most folks out there. We still have a camping mentality, a comfy bed, a reliable cooker and some method of keeping ourselves clean are still all we need, and we are more than happy to give up the rest of the paraphernalia lots of others prefer to be able to stay in beautiful secluded places. For other options we like cottages. With a dishwasher.........
Love the photo Euro T. My OH wanted an Eriba, but he forgot about where to put two big dogs......😂

5.99m here and have lived in it for around 4 weeks at a time. It was fine.👍🏻
I'd not want to live in any LV for 3-5 mths non-stop, tbh, and assume that’s the total spread over a year.

Aside from the MH issues mentioned here. I do believe that self certification of the ability to drive at 70, 73, 76 etc should be removed. Anyone can say they are fit/suitable to drive, however the reality is, that many (not all) over 70's may have problems with reaction times, eyesite, other medical problems which impact on their driving. My own father drove for at least 6 years past when he should despite us trying to persuade him otherwise.

The same applies to Many (not all) drivers up to the age of 70, IMHO....

Black boxes for all? Our teenage grandson has a "telematic" black box insurance but I think others can use this system too?
But I think with vans it's more a question of whether you can safely manage the outfit overall at whatever age.

is 5.99m from bow to stern ?, never been in a MH but i think i will investigate next time i am near a dealer, cant afford to buy, we need 2 cars so if we swopped to MH that would be 3 x everything you need to keep a car on the road, far too expensive

Yup, bumper to bumper.
We got rid of the second car as the MH is small enough to use as a car.

We gave up UK travel in favour of long haul fights
I don't know, these brawling Brits you read about in the red tops. I never took you for one, Eurotraveller.

CY, I meant flights not fights
But I really meant to say we are just summertime caravanners, we never fancied over wintering with an Eriba on a Spanish refugee camp so we went faraway every January for very genteel, but cheap and cheerful backpacking.

We are use to small outfits. Our little MH is only 5.5 metres, we sometimes carry a storage box on bike rack. Our beloved caravan is a mere 13 footer. We have done a month at a time in both, sometimes with three/two dogs! 😁

Now who is being economical with the truth when you go on to say that you don't use car parks
i'm lost
Well you did say that you stayed on CC sites, HD!!

Totally agree, however a driving licence expires at 70 and has a ridiculous renewal system. Might as well not have an expiry and allow everyone to drive until they don’t want to!

We all think and react differently when driving or towing caravans. Lots of younger people would not even tow a camping trailer, so a caravan is out of the question. I tow a 7.5 mitre caravan with a large 4x4 and always feel more at ease driving that even in heavy motorway traffic than our Honda Jazz, when I stop feeling like that we will sell the caravan and I am in my late 70s. Maybe always being a HGV driver helps.
