Member Offer: My Esso Card
Comments

There is no gain for us. Although Esso is our nearest supplier even with a reduction this can't beat our local supermarkets. If Esso was the only available fuel, ie we lived in a remote spot with one local Esso supplier it might appear to be worth the effort.
There is too much fixing of fuel prices, what I would like to see is a fair deal for consumers.
There maybe a cut per card for the providers, plus an upturn in Esso usage but the consumer doesn't really gain much. 👎

Let's face it, this card, when it works, is good/suitable for some and not for others that have a choice of alternative brands of fuel. I'm not blessed with several supermarket or cheaper fuels in my area, so the Esso/Pump King card suits me fine.
If you don't like what's on offer, then either don't apply for a card or, if you feel the card's not right for you after signing, then don't use it. How many members are using the card without issues? Probably a lot more than have appeared on this thread!
Don't think I've ever bothered to post before on this forum and can't say that I've really missed much. The CMC have tried to offer something in good faith and yes, for many reasons, it's had some issues and maybe more to come but should the time come when it doesn't work for me, I'll simply stop using the card and not whinge about it - life's too short.
Rant over .

there are people on this forum saying its not worth having the card, but I applied because in our little town there are only two garages one is a esso, the price of diesil yesterday when my card didn't work was £129.99 yet through the card it would be £1.26, my nearest supermarket is Tesco's but it is umanned pumps, and we can't get the 10p per litre discount when we shop as it is only for manned kiosk stations. so once the card is working it will help me. yes its great for cheap fuel in big towns with a choice of fuel stations, but then again we have no traffic jams, fresh air, and great views.

This promotion was managed by the Caravan Club and was supposed to be exclusively for its members. It sounded too good to be true which is why many applied as we all thought that the CC would have checked and verified the organisation offering the card to them.
We now have the following involved when a purchase is made;
Caravan Club who promoted the card
Wex who issue the card
Esso who offer the discount
Braintree who process the payment
Pump KIng who supposedly manage the card
Esso service station where the fuel is bought
Visa who process the payment a second time for the debit
Your bank or building society
I would think that ALL the above would take some sort of commission as none would do it for free. This in turn will push up the price per litre of Esso fuel which is why it may be more expensive than other service stations in the area.
Eventually it may be cheaper just to buy the fuel elsewhere as you are not gaining anything by buying from Esso.
Just my thoughts!

don't forget the government who take the biggest cut and do nothing for it. Esso stations are run on a franchise and that's why there is a difference in prices between them. I have 2 Esso's within 2 miles and one is always 2p cheaper than the other. all the stations have to do is buy there fuel from Esso.

I don’t really see Governments' (plural - all Governments) taxation of fuel to add to the general pot of Treasury income is relevant to the Esso offer.
You either buy Esso, with or without the deal, or you don’t.

to be perfectly honest i dont think your logic stacks up, i have 2 Shell cards, one a fuel card can be used on motorways only, and one a loyalty card whereby i collect points each time i top up and then exchange these for fuel vouchers.
Lots of retails stores have loyalty cards in different guises, and Braintree as we know is Paypal, so if you buy anything online via Paypal , yes they take a commission as do Visa. Nectar card is another perfect example, you collect points from various outlets and then spend in others.
So i dont see the logic that Esso are going to be more expensive because they have fuel cards. Most fleet operators, road hauliers etc use agency cards whereby they get fuel at a reduced rate from a range of different providers.
But as somebody else has said, you dont have to have an Esso Card, or use it if you have, your choice.

I must admit that you seem to be very defensive of the CC's Esso card. Are you employed by the CC as a PR agent?
You are probably one of the very few lucky ones that have not had any issues and find Esso fuel is cheaper than supermarkets where you live.
No one expected these hassles from the CC who are supposed to be a reputable organisation and who also promoted the fuel card.
We certainly did not expect threats of debt collectors because PK tried double dipping. We did not expect a transaction to be declined several weeks after the threatening email even though there were no outstanding payments or issues!
BTW does any one know what has happened regarding the prizes offer for joining promptly?

Now here is a very very strange idea for the fuel pirates opps sorry companies why waste money printing cards the admin in invoicing and payments systems involved to take payment hes the real mind shattering part Sell The Dam Fuel cheaper to start with but we all now that will never happen fuel price fixing has been going on for decades and will never stop

We used our card for first time on 19th of January, no problems, took card and pin worked fine. So what's the problem you wonder? .....nothing has appeared on the account and no money has been taken?? Worried about using it now .

From the other Facebook groups that also promoted the offer they are also having the same problems.
As I have said before this is a good offer let down by poor admin and support.
It's not for everyone as they may get fuel cheaper locally than the offer price like myself, but when the offer was cheaper I did save quite a few quid until they double dipped. At that point I stopped using it.
I haven't used it since as the prices aren't cheap enough but may reconsider if that changes. I will be more careful though and have a debit card registered that has no funds so will top that up as and when I may use it.
As it's free to have the card,it's a handy thing to keep in my wallet.
My view us that esso may have had a quiet word about pump king using their brand name so heavily for the offer and the website hence the new website and cards.

As per Rowena;
To launch this great new offer, My Esso Card are giving Caravan and Motorhome Club members an exclusive chance to win free fuel. 10 lucky winners will win 175 litres of fuel and another 10 lucky winners 75 litres of fuel! Members need to register for a card and fill by 31 December 2018 to be entered into the random prize draw. Winners will automatically have the fuel credit added to their My Esso Card account.
Can any one advise who won this competition as I am sure that there is legislation in place ensuring that the competition should happen on the dates specified?
They have had since the end of December for the draw to take place as no one has been notified that it has been cancelled or postponed. We joined the scheme on 27th November 2018 so should have been entered into the draw.
It may actually be illegal to use a competition to induce people to join a scheme and then the competition does not happen? I am not sure but will contact a consumer body for further advice.

I believe I have read somewhere that the prize draw was put back until the end of January because of all the problems registering for the card. We are now well into February with no notification of any winner. Are they going to try to move the date yet again because they have to issue new cards? They can't keep moving the goal-posts. Perhaps Ro can confirm that the draw took place and who the inner was.

I have had confirmation from the CC that the draw is due to take place today for all those that signed up before December 31st. It would be grossly unfair if the date of Dec 31st were moved to a later date besides not one was notified that the date may be changed anyway.
I wonder if the winners will be published somewhere on the forum or website late today?

I think if you trawl back through through all these posts i am fairly certain that we were informed that the draw date had been put back to the end of January, I know we are into Feb and no draw made but we did get some indication, let us know how you get on with all your proposed legal actions

Not sure how the club are going to handle this, because as i see it there seems to be a number of people out there who applied for cards before Dec 31st but did not and have still not received them, more tales of woeand yet more posts to this already bloated subject.

Applied for my card on the 19th Jan, still waiting for it. Received a letter to apologise that it's going to be delayed.
Looking forward to using it as the fuel price texts I've been receiving from them are 5p cheaper than our local Esso forecourt prices.

Well done! 😂😂😂
Perhaps you should try not buying a lottery ticket this week. 😋😉

ooooo that's one way of stirring it up Met. Naughty. haha. the original draw as I read it was you had to use the card first before being entered, so even if you signed up for the card before 31 Dec and not received card you could not be entered as you had no card to use.

I like other members are confused with the Esso cards.
When my first card arrived I was able to register and obtain a pin No.
Then another card arrived in January with different No.
I actually spoke to Pump king to enquire what I should with the new card. I was told to send a email as this would result in a early reply. Nothing came to answer my question.
Both cards are orange and have Esso and wex logo.
On Feb 6th I received a email telling me to registrar my new card online after log in to my profile.
I appear now not to be able to change the card No. like others or
contact Pump king to ask for help .

Don't be too smug. To redeem the free fuel, you will need a card. By the time your card arrives (about June) the offer will have expired or Pumpkin will have folded, or both. Mmmm - Pumpkin, that reminds me of the Cinderella story, doesn't it all go a bit wrong at midnight?

This is sounding like the Club’s equivalent of the now cancelled new Ramsgate ferry service. 🤣🤣🤣

I was wondering if there’s a connection 😂

Not any longer - the 11:39 service from Euston has been discontinued.
