'arriving early' is only an arbitrary situation, created by 'the rules'...and a specific staffing model.

if the pitch is available/vacant, how can you be 'early'?

I am sure that you know the answer to that daft question BB

The only way to stop early arrivals is to remove the rule of before 12.00

then there will be no more early arrivals, then you will get ones who arrive before the site opens.. well to stop that do not close the site, and we can come and go has we please and pay when the office opens simple.

    "a pipe dream for a cc site, I know.....undecided"

Or for just about any other site "over here" as a matter of fact, BB, so no point singling out the club for that criticism.  As you know, I agree with you about more flexible arrival/departure arrangements on site, but it's pretty much a way of life with all major sites in the UK, including many CLs and CSs, not unique to this club by any means. frown

The very large comercial site we go to most November's, is no earlier than 1400 hrs for arrivals and departures are 1100 hrs latest so a "pipe dream" is more a "smoke screen"as noted before with posts from the member

It's the same old BB story, last time he claimed it was people were being 'forced' to arrive early, now the early arrivals are 'created' by the system. That is just nonsense, people simply choose to arrive early as they either cannot tell time or are selfish.

The club arrival time is clearly stated, don't like it choose a site that suits you. But actually the club's arrival times are pretty good, some have leave by 10 and arrival at 2.

I would imagine the ferry instructions would say something like latest arrival 10.00 am, so we would arrive before 10 am....cool

what do these sites do with the pitches in the intervening two/four hours...?

turn down the sheets, chocolate on the pillow, perhaps?

whilst I understand there may be grass cutting to do in places, they certainly don't 'prepare specific pitches' prior to arrival as most are now (or will be...) HS.....a bit of neat raking possibly....?

so, Corners, I've said members are forced to arrive early have I? new one on me, want to dig that one out?

i specifically said I was talking about the site I am on in Spain, my point was that, wherever you are, there are always other ways to do things.

some on here complain about folk who arrive 'early' and cause congestion with queuing.

if those arrivals could be checked in by staff who 'check in customers' (rather than clean toilets) they could be ushered onto vacant pitches.....and, if they have a booking, there will be some, as some folk leave far earlier than those dreadful 'early' arrivals.

less choice of pitch perhaps, but swings and roundabouts...

no queuing, no traffic, no customer bow wave....

at home, I usually ring ahead and find out if we get on early, often we can......so we do.

I have no idea what they do on these site as I won't go there but it happens, I suggest you ask them direct,

why are you so fixated on the cleaning toilets rather than checking in theme? You state it so many times, it happens on only a few club sites and only when there is only set set of wardens?

Funny how you don't remember the forced bit yet remember bow wave after 18 months (another recurring theme of yours BB) oh well

oh and if there no vacant pitches? or five arrivals and only 3 pitches? These things do happen over here in peak on club sites

Club site at Park Coppice at Coniston is almost fully booked this weekend, but the usual rules apply - arrival at 10am.

Other Club sites have lots of empty spaces - do people have to wait there for the authorised midday?

usual rules? I think the usual rule is 12 or 1pm?

Mind you you are correct in saying that other club sites have lots of empty spaces, many of them are closedsmile

however of the ones that are open, Quite a few are almost fully booked (Melrose, York being two) and yes they will have to wait till 12.

Still no one is force to endure such practices are they? In fact at York, it is almost fully booked this month and next so I guess people are quite happy to wait till midday?

As you seem as usual to forget the sites that do not want as per the "rules"that have been ratified by members , earlier arrivals  are normaly staffed by two or four  people, and as stated earlier the commercial site we use has "dedicated"front office staff with others having their own workloads, and still its 1400 earliest arrival even with a call to ask if an earlier arrival is possible, because of having to leave our previos site just over an hour away, and still the toilets are only cleaned a m

Question for you BB. The site you're on is roughly twice the size of the average club site. An average club site has four staff members. How many in total at BP?

A question for you JK, how many of those 4 members of club staff are actually working during the 7 days of the week prior to 12 and not cleaning toilets etc to service BB are some on 'down time'

I have no idea why Edinburgh and Park Coppice are special cases allowing folk on at 10am nor why Seacroft Cromer is 1pm.

Surely, on a two couple site there must be a few days a week when only one couple are on duty what with the WTA. Similarly, even on those days when two couples are on duty together there will be several hours when the same applies. Also, a reasonable time for lunch and this break being of reasonable length must impinge on the rota and staffing levels around arrivals timings.

    sufficientwink

the issue is that they let vans on site throughout the day...from 9 am till well into the evening...

the upshot is no queuing, fewer vans on site driving around and customers getting on to site quickly and efficiently...

agreed, a different model....and it requires someone to be in the office full time....but, to me, that's pretty basic customer service.....

the club has decided to plough its furrow with the most basic of staffing levels....

the OP suggests......'my solution'.....'mine is obviously somewhat different and revolves around the dog wagging the tail, not the other way round....

so, you've quoted me as saying something (which I don't recall) and you can't support it......?

yes, I've used the term 'bow wave' before.... is just a term for many vans arriving at the same time, surely you realised this?

have another dig around and see what you can come up with....I'm really interestedundecided...not.

    Hi Et

I'll try to briefly, by example (last year) the working hours on a club site staffed by two couples based on a 46 hour per week contract. I'll not go into the working day details (can't be bothered I'm on holiday!). The warden is responsible for implementing a rota that suits the requirements of any given site. The site reception opens at nine am. daily routines are set including cleaning the facilities, groundwork, and all the numerous jobs that can't be set in stone. I've left that short as some days I could fill pages with things to be done whilst still catering for the members wants and needs. Reception usually closes around five or six depending on business etc. The wardens are then still on duty (available) until eight pm. After eight pm there will be a staff member(s) available for emergencies until play resumes the next day.

The WTD dictates what we can do, gone are the days of silly hours unpaid. Any extra hours worked over the rosta are recorded and have to be balanced over the twenty six weeks laid out in that WTD.

So, we work an average five day week, on my site last year there were three whole weekdays where only one couple were on duty, there were one whole day and two halves when both couples were on duty (weekends), and two days where a short time in the morning where two couples were present.

While I'd love to work a site with "sufficient" staff to do all the different roles, that would come at a cost that the site fee whingers would literally gag at. Just saying!undecided

    JK

    Hi DD

So, paid to the relatives standards. Not sure about Portugal but the "relative standard" in Spain from Jan. 1st this year is 1150 euros per month based on a forty hour week. Of course any commercial site can offer as you say, and probably are cheaper than this club but the site I'm on for example has 1200 pitches and 200 cabins and they employ 60 staff as well. Interesting that speaking with the management, that their overheads are considerably less than our club.
