The Snowdrop King
I was at our local garden club this week, listening to a talk about seed growing, nice to think of warmer weather and growing your own. But the talk also turned to snowdrops. I learnt something new, not far from us James Allen, known as the Snowdrop King was the first person to develop new breeds from wild snowdrops and there's a snowdrop festival on soon in Shepton Mallet, Somerset, where he used to live.
If I can't get to that I might manage a local National Garden Scheme visit to see some snowdrops. We've planted some more in our garden this year so maybe one day we'll have more than just a few clumps. Anyone off for a snowdrop walk this month?

We have nearby a lovely privately owned wood, Evenley Wood Garden near Brackley, which has wonderful displays of Snowdrops at this time of year, they claim to have up to 80 varieties. It is well worth a visit if in the area. Hope the link works.

There's a wonderful spread of Snowdrops along the road sides from the village of Huby right the way through to Stainburn. They are a joy to see at this time of year;
