ther'll obviously be a change over period where the old are withdrawn as the new design is released....annoying as this is the first trip I've used my Jumbo...

I was talking to Neil at Safefill yesterday,he told me that his old partner who made the bottle and valve was unable to do anymore, he has now got a new partner to make the bottles and valve and he will be having new stock shortly

Branches of Morrisons are far apart. Not all sell road fuel, and not all of them have gas.

As I’m shortly changing my caravan I was interested in getting a Safefill cylinder. On initially contacting them I was told stock should be in by early February but as yet they're still out of stock. I queried the position again and got this email reply yesterday:
The new stock of Safefill cylinders are in production and should be with us late February early March, but unfortunately we are still waiting for a confirmed delivery date.
We are sorry for the wait.

That’s right DD- carry on your campaign against Safefill. You were proved 100% wrong last time and this will be no different You really are a bitter man aren’t you? You continue to voice opinions that are totally unsupported and slag off a good and honest company. You have never, even when invited, tried to find the truth behind the apparent difficulties at Safefill which are not as you so flippantly put it ‘a Smoke screen ‘ You owe it to yourself and for honesty’s sake to seek the truth but that would destroy your narrative wouldn’t it? I can assure you it’s far far different to your narrow minded, I know it all, protestations. Safefill are fighting to bring cylinders to market and through NO fault of their own. They will succeed. To those of you who are wanting cylinders, please be patient. I find this situation very frustrating too but I know the truth behind the situation. I have no more to say on this subject.

By the way- has anyone got any info regarding Calors new ‘lightweight Cylinder ‘? I’m betting it’ll be a composite cylinder with the famous ‘let’s rip ‘em off valve’ on it. made by Hexagon Regasco- the same company who made cylinders for Safefill until they suddenly went ‘cold’ on them. I wonder if the two are connected in some way? Keep the faith people, it’ll all be OK in the end.

From that description, it sounds like the 'new Calor cylinder' is a dead ringer for the BP/Gaslight cylinder. I think an exchange for those is around the thirty quid mark so about three and a half times the cost of the actual gas.

The Safefill bottle is a dead ringer for the Gaslight bottle. It is my opinion that the Calorlite bottle was rushed out to kill off BP Gaslight which effectively it has done Gaslight is now a very niche product these days. Having choked off that market I don’t think Calor are in any hurry to replace it. Commercially I don’t think that the calorlight makes very much sense it is positioned for camping and caravanning at a premium price. So those of us that use a lot of gas can’t afford it. Those of you that don’t use much gas and have had, a bottle sitting in your locker for the last 18 months aren’t making Calor any money. They only make money when you swap.
Safefill going out of stock; This is not the first time that this has happened. The bottle as shown on the SF website is the third version of safefill and there have been gaps in availability before. Actually the bottle is not that important for a Safefill It is the valve at the top that is the clever part . I also wonder how saturated the market is. I reckon that on a rally there are at least as many Safefill bottles as outfits

A very different picture to that I see. It may be so within a particular rallying community operating in areas where refilling is readily available, but certainly not a general situation. I have had a few attendees asking, but never been able to help with "where".
The "killer" situation holding Safefill from really taking off, at least near here, is and is likely to remain, the availability of outlets allowing their refilling. If it would be different I and others in our rallying community would be owners, but all we find is ever diminishing refill options, or a need to rally elsewhere. Many like the idea, but realise it is simply not viable. Even Morrisons with LPG on forecourts, are many miles away.
The challenges with owning Gaslights are very much less, here.

I think that you are unfair to DD as he was not '100% wrong' he was rather correct based on the official documentation available at the time.
I hope that the refillable bottles of whichever supplier and the ability to refill them grows for the sake of those that it might prove useful to.

There were reports of less availability/ no availability from some outlets but obviously some were still available. For Safefill it was unfortunate that when they got agreement from Morrisons to refill the stocks of bottles seemed to dwindle. Wonder if there was a sudden surge in uptake?
