Way to Go I share your interests and questions regarding travel guidance etc but I don't think the club or any of us can do much until we get nearer a formal date. Did you know the club have been trying to update the information presently available. See this LINK (club info on travelling after Brexit.) The other site being continually updated is the Gov.uk Brexit site which you mentioned and this contains reams of information and possible outcomes but even that can't truly be relied on till we get to the exit dates and agreements.
edit I see the club have included "useful links" to the gov. web site and also to Abta.

There was another thread going that covered this topic but I can't find it, I can't remember if it was closed, strayed off topic or is still open? Maybe someone can dig it out. I had a quick look for it but can't find it.
Edit. Found it, look in the overseas section. I think there may be others. If folks don't start adding personal political comments perhaps new threads will survive?

I think you are referring to the thread I have recently closed in the Overseas Touring section. Couple of things I would say about that thread. Firstly there was no relevant or useful information posted in the original post and on reflection I should have perhaps closed the thread immediately. However the reason it was closed was one member started to voice a personal opinion about elements of us leaving the EU this is what is not allowed in any discussion on this subject.
As I mentioned when I closed the tread there is not ban on talking about the effects of Brexit on us travelling abroad or providing useful and factual information on how that might impact on fellow travellers to Europe and there probably a few threads on the subject that are still open but have slid down the listing because of lack of contributions.
I do appreciate that the time is getting closer with apparently no settled way forward and members will be worried, especially if their start or return coincides with the end of March. If you can come up with a catchall thread to cover all elements please feel free to post and perhaps we could look to make it sticky?

Untill the event is put into motion,any such thoughts will be just the posters interpretations, and as to what will happen will be down to whoever is doing the negotiating on the real rules , once the event is triggered which maybe in about two months

I’m rather surprised the Club aren’t dedicating a read only thread to this event to be honest, even if there isn’t a great deal to post. Like others, I was reading the closed thread for updates. There has been some information for pet owners posted I seem to recall, probably down in pets section.

I would agree with this, and back in September 2018 I posted a link, on this and other forums, to Government advice about travelling with pets after Brexit. The advice was still ambivalent, with lots of 'ifs' and 'buts' but the worst case scenario involved pet owners in a process which could possibly take up to six months. Posting the information early allowed several pro-active people to get the process started, and those people have all now got the reassurance of knowing that whatever happens we will be able to take our pets to Europe before or after B day, and bring them back again. After all, we do actually have 'a date' and it is only 53 days away!
I think it would be very useful to be able to discuss factual information, once government advice is issued - and not argue about whether that advice is correct or relevant. In most other forums the information about pets was taken factually and people either acted on it if they needed to or just scrolled past the thread without making (too many) political points.
If people could avoid speculation, and nonsense posts, or avoid getting involved in threads where they have no real interest, then I think even B word posts could be a very useful resource instead of just another source for point-scoring and antagonism.0 -
I usually do one year touring the west country, then the following year France, I keep my dog passport up to date with the rabies jab, and this year I was looking forward to the western side of France down to the Spanish border and back up thru the Dordogne area,but with all the if and buts, do we need green card insurance, international driving licence, also is the passport going to be different, and the pet thingy Ive just sadly changed my mind this year and just see how it pans out for next year.

yes, and if you had not made this post i would probably have not taken early steps to make sure my dog was covered to travel, and guess what, it failed the initial rabies anti body test and we are waiting for results, expected next week. Originally we should have left the UK 2nd Apr, but have now brought this forward to 26th Mar so that we at least we get out before new rules come into play. As for all the rest IDP, green card etc I have sourced these as a " just in case", IDP is £10 to cover France and Spain, green card is free from insurance company, so my take on this is, if you think you might need it and it is not going to cost an arm and a leg, just buy it. Tks ValDa.

WTG re whether or not they applied for an ETIAS; think i saw something on the television news only a couple of days ago that visa free travel to all UK nationals would be available within the EU irrespective of the deal when we leave or dont leave, or did i dream this, seen so much of late it makes my brain ache

Having a resource (or a number of them) giving the "official" position on any of the coming changes will be most useful. However, anyone travelling into Europe, or indeed staying within the UK and trying to live life as they have done for the past couple of decades, needs to be aware of one thing.
It will all come down to how things are interpreted by the relevant officials. To give a, hopefully, non-political example - it is no use having a platform ticket if the man on the gate will not open the barrier.

I am happy to start a generic discussion for advice on travelling after Brexit for information purposes and as David suggests we can make this a sticky. Let me know what you think. However, we do ask that political debate is avoided as it's often turned to arguments in the past. As such the discussion would be for sharing information with each other only and updates from the Club. Any political comments would be removed. Many thanks and appreciate your understanding.

Reading people's posts, I do feel that we could do with a 'sticky' thread in which to discuss aspects of travel after Brexit. Perhaps with the title 'Travelling after Brexit' would encompass all likely scenarios.
