Has anyone toured Sardinia? There seems to be a plethora of MH's on all the sites I've viewed, but I would love to hear from anyone who has toured with a caravan, how you found it and which ferry you used.

Thank you

I’ve been to Sardinia many times (love it), but sadly never in my campervan. Campervans are common but I didn’t see many touring caravans, only statics on site. Wild camping seems to be fairly commonplace in car parks by beaches. Most beaches have one or several rough surface car parks and under tree shade is at a premium - some are a bit chaotic, many are free. Outside of the main centres, roads can be fairly narrow and locals drive like....... Italians!

The port of Olbia in the NE corner seems to be a popular entry point

Take a look at this video blog of a young NZ couple’s Sardinia trip - search YouTube for “Wilderling Camper” episodes 42,43,44

JR, if it's any help try putting Sardinia in the search box at the top of this Overseas section. I came up with a similar question from Lutz. Here's a LINK

    Thanks  Bill & Brue

Brue - I tried your suggestion earlier and nothing came up - and now it does! Strange glitches of this forum me thinks

Two years ago we took our caravan to Sardinia, taking the Livorno - Olbia ferry both ways. We toured most of the northern part of the island. Our stay at International Camping in Valledoria was an absolute highlight. The pitch was only about 10 paces from an almost deserted beach with fantastic white sand and from which we had a view of about 10 miles of coastline in both directions. Other campsites that we visited were an Agriturismo in Dorgali, in Alghero, Palau and Cala Ginepro. If you‘d like more details just let me know.

Thanks Lutz. Sounds idyllic and just what I was hoping to hear. If there had been any difficulties towing I'm sure you'd have mentioned them.

    AD

Just fancy some sandy beaches for a change although it's really tough not booking Croatia 😀

Yes, especially the campsite in the dunes at Valledoria was idyllic.

Although we were towing an 8m caravan we had no difficulty whatsoever in that part of the island that we toured. I believe that is in contrast to Corsica which can be a bit challenging.

Lutz, we too have an 8.25m caravan, so it's reassuring to hear your advice

AD, thank you for posting such lovely photos, my mind is now made up, so can plan my next adventure 👍😀

I‘m on the Canary Islands at the moment (without the caravan I may add). If I don’t forget when I get home in a fortnight‘s time I‘ll post some photos of the campsites where we stayed.
