Green cards
Many insurance companies are listing proposed European travellers to issue Green Cards automatically in the event of a Brexit 'No Deal'.
My enquiry to the Caravan Club, as agents of our MH insurance, are 'Waiting to see what happens'
Driving permits and all other vital documents are prepared with a 'Just in case' option.
Has the CC not heard of Brexit?

Seriously though, I see International Driving Permits will be available from the Post Office from 1 February which is at least one thing we can do to prepare for the new season. Not sure about booking with Brittany Ferries though as it seems there’s a good chance of getting ‘bumped off’ if ports are besieged by HGV backlog! Happy Days (not).

Hi all,
When the UK leaves the EU, members may need to carry an International Certificate of Insurance (Green card) as proof of 3rd party motor insurance cover when driving in the EU.
If you have a Club Motorhome or Car insurance policy, these cards are issued by our partner brokers, Devitt Insurance Ltd, who can be contacted on 0345 300 4290.
The Club's advice is that you should contact Devitt at least two weeks prior to your departure to obtain your Green Card if necessary and to ensure you have suitable cover in place for your trip.

David Smith thank you for your advice....is there a reason why none (?) of the clubs insurance telephone advisors are aware of this advice?
My first post indicates a statement by the person I spoke to, who, in turn spoke to his supervisor, and advised me as previously stating the club is .....'Waiting to see what happens'
I do have all the correct advice I need to travel throughout Europe in the future except for this little error (but could have been vital!) by my insurance agent....The Club!

I have now spoken to Devitt Ins Ltd and surprised that their comment and attitude mirrored the Clubs!
'Waiting to see what happens'
Unlike other insurance companies, and most of Europe for that matter, they too have no contingency plans in place for a no deal Brexit.

I insure with ..puegeot . when i travel abroad I just phone up .then tell them which countries iam visiting .pay the extra required green card sent in seven days no hassle at all. even get new gb sticker and travel info .of them been doing this a good ten years or more

It seems that Devitt require 3 weeks notice...we travel 11 days after the 29th March.....but they won't issue on spec prior to that date.
Been doing this for over 50 years and never had any kind of problem or uncertainty.
I can't imagine them dealing with and satisfying thousands of telephone requests on the 29th!
To solve my own situation we will make a minor detour through Kaliningrad and obtain a green card well in advance!

I have spoken to Devitt and the reason they did not offer you a Green Card immediately was that you are not travelling until mid-April, and with the uncertainty still around Brexit, there may not be any need to issue one.
What we’re trying to avoid is all customers asking for a Green Card on a 'just in case' basis, as this would incur costs that may impact customers and the Club.
However, it is not our intention to deny anyone a Green Card should they want one.
I am out of the office for the rest of the week, but when I return on Monday I will be happy to get Devitt to contact you directly and issue a Green card for your trip.

As a general point to other posters, we currently only issue Green Cards to people who are intending to tour OUTSIDE the EU. However, if Brexit happens, there may be a requirement to issue Green Cards for travel in the EU, as we will no longer be members. The reason we cannot be totally prescriptive on requirements at this point is that we still don't know what Brexit, should it happen, will look like.

Appears people haven't read there insurance docs .most only cover third party in Europe .and you have to upgrade to get fully comp ..mine works for me if I don't go no extra cost for that year but if I go on holiday just pay to get fully comp insurance when I need it

The 2 covers are just that, i.e.2.
The Green Card was necessary because basic Third Party cover was not standardised until the EU brought out a directive that insurers of EU registered vehicles and insured in EU countries would all include cover for Third Party on their certificates if they provided cover outside of their own country.
However not every insurer is willing to continue your Comprehensive cover for your vehicle without an additional premium, either to give you Comp cover or to extend their period of cover, say from 30 days to 60 etc.
It would seem that AD's insurers and my own have always managed to provide the cover we need without extra payment.

Thank you David....the whole point of my post was to indicate that other insurance companies are actually listing those that will require a green card after 29th in the case of a 'No Deal'.
That would of course save issuing green cards when it isn't necessary but automatically issue them if they are required.
